Icon402 Kathy Griffin's beheaded Donald Trump photo grabs Secret Service's attention

Comedian Kathy Griffin is defending a photo of herself holding what appears to be a bloody, decapitated fake head of President Trump, despite sweeping bi-partisan disapproval of the image...

"I caption this 'there was blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his ... wherever,'" Griffin tweeted, referring to an exchange between Donald Trump and former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly during the primary season.

I don't know how I feel about this. It's tasteless, but is it a threat?

I remember people hanging effigies of Obama when he was president. Did the Secret Service treat them as threats?

I doubt it was meant as a threat; but it's both obnoxious and stupid.

At least sometimes, yes.

Whether the non-secret-service people who are most worked up about this got worked up about that also is another question.

Agreed that it's tasteless. For me also well, I just expect better from my side.

She's already posted an apology

Quote:
I sincerely apologize. I am just now seeing the reaction of [sic] these images. Iím a comic. I cross the line. I move the line, then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasnít funny. I get it. Iíve made a lot of mistakes in my career. I will continue. I asked your forgiveness, and Iím gonna ask the photographer to take down the image, and I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far; I made a mistake; and I was wrong.

Wow, an actual apology apology instead of an "I'm sorry some people were offended" apology.

Default CNN fires Kathy Griffin over offensive Trump photo

Kathy Griffin will no longer appear with Anderson Cooper on New Year's Eve.

A day after Griffin released a photograph holding a mock "decapitated" head of President Trump, CNN announced they have terminated their contract with the comic.

I hope for better, too, but things have become so polarized I think I'm more surprised at the outrage than I am at the photograph.

Me neither, though they had to have known it was extreme. They said in the video from the shoot they'd have to move to Mexico once it was out.

Ok, the "blood coming out of his....wherever" bit did make me snicker.

Otherwise, yeah, dumb.

As for Obama: I have to say that his administration greatly increased my confidence in the Secret Service. Not only was Obama not assassinated, there weren't even any notable attempts. Given the level of hostility his Presidency generated among a large segment of the population, I find it hard to believe that this is because no one tried.

That pretty much sums up Kathy Griffen's comic persona, so I wasn't super surprised she'd do this. Also not super surprised that it's dominating the media... but of course none of the actual threats against Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama grabbed much notice.

There's no double standard here no-sir-ee.

Trump was still able to somehow turn this into an attack on his youngest son. It seems ok for him to say what he likes about people but when people have a crack at him, he gets pissy. I really feel embarrassed for you guys.

True, but to be fair, she's done what she can. Of course it would have been better if she hadn't shared it, but she can't undo what's done.

Which is really rich given the things Trump has been known to have said about women. He has already called for people to be dragged off, heís mocked a reporter that had a disability, the whole ďlocker room talkĒ thing. None of which to my recollection he apologized for.

Plus, I think at 11 years old, Barron is smart enough to realize that it was not real. Heís probably seen worse than that.

I agree with the free speech argument, but not the argument that a kid should be mature enough to handle a beheaded effigy of their parent. 11 is old enough to know the hate is real, even if the head isn't.

Honestly I'd find a beheaded image of my dad upsetting even now.

The secret service treats all threats against the president seriously. He's the one person in the US it's illegal to threaten. Threats against Obama were taken seriously and threats against Trump will be taken seriously. It's because we have a history of having our Presidents assassinated. Think of it like getting on an airplane and joking that you have a bomb. Then saying you were making a statement against, I don't know, the treatment of Syrians or something. It doesn't matter what sort of "statement" you were trying to make they are going to treat you like you were a threat. I think Madonna got off lucky that they didn't do more with her and if all Kathy gets is fired from a few jobs she got off lucky as well. It doesn't matter what you think of Trump or Obama any threat against a sitting president isn't taken as a joke. And again yes, they took all threats against Obama the same.

I agree that the kid doesn't deserve it, but Trump's an absolute hypocrite to complain given everything he's spent the last eight years slinging at Obama with no concern for his daughters.

But then he's a hypocrite on everything so that's not a surprise.

Re ChasFink's link:

I am vehemently anti-Trump; and I think it was over the line.

But then, I don't think attempting to divide the country neatly into two lumps of people works no matter which lumps are chosen.

Was there a point he was actually trying to make? I'll admit that I have had a low opinion of Scott Adams for a long time, but that seemed to be a bunch of random ramblings.
