Richard Harrison actually grew up in Lexington, NC, which is not all that far from where I grew up. In one episode where they were interviewing potential new employees to work at the pawn shop, one of the applicants looked like he could be the "Old Man's" twin and claimed to be from my hometown. I assume that scene was actually staged for comic effect, so who knows if he really was.

I liked the patriarch's no nonsense approach to things. It belied his time in the Navy. I have noticed his absence on the most recent shows, and I guess I was expecting to hear this.
RIP Richard Benjamin Harrison.

I was surprised to hear he was only 77. I'd have guessed his age as at least 80 when we were watching and that was at least 5-8 years ago.

The other day I read that Barry Weiss claimed to be 60 when the show Storage Wars first aired. I'd have put him at mid to late 60s and that would have been me being kind. Maybe for some people the camera doesn't add 10 lbs but 10 years?

The article did say he had Parkinson's disease. Could that make him appear older than he was?

To me it was always his slow/sluggish demeanor and his extra pounds that made him look "old".
