When the train breaks down they have to go to backup power. (The engine also runs the generator.) The cash registers may not work. The time I was on a train that broke down from St. Louis to Chicago I think they still let people buy cans of soda from the refrigerator for short time before they closed the service area altogether. I doubt they would have let anyone run the microwave.
