I hope that deliveryman got a good tip . For some reason I am flashing back to the endless thread we had once upon a time about tipping. I'd like to think even those who are against tipping would think this guy went above and beyond the call of duty walking along that track to make his delivery!

I doubt they brought pizza for the entire train and depending on where the train broke own it may not exactly have been beyond the call of duty. Anyways, a real hero would have pushed the train clear to NY.

He had to hike along the tracks for a while to find the train, that's dedication to duty.

Is there some other source for "a while" and does delivering pizza for money really fall under "duty"? Seems like more of a pizza for hire mercenary kind of thing. Probably deliver pizza to his own mother on mothers day if someone paid him enough...

According to‘Can we deliver to a stuck train?’: Deliveryman brings pizza to a stranded Amtrak train.:

Quote:
he then navigated his way behind a row of houses, past a fence, over a berm and across a small stream — all while balancing two pizzas in a bag.
and then he walked along the train for a bit, as can be seen in the video.

The article also says he got a $32 tip. $12 from the man who ordered and $20 from a bystander who was pleased to see he brought plates and such.

Yes, but he didn't push the train, so that makes him a slacker, and not entitled to any acknowledgment of his efforts.

I'm sure they do this sort of thing all the time and it was just a slow news day.

Does Amtrak not offer a Café Car on this route? It seems like New York to Washington would be long enough to have at least a Café Car if not a full dining car. But it's possible they didn't have enough food in stock for everyone on the train given the unexpected delay.

Or maybe they just wanted pizza. Nice of the pizza place to take the order and the delivery guy to go the extra mile to get it there.

On the Capital Corridor trains they actually have pizza, although admittedly probably not very good pizza -- more like a personal sized pizza heated in a microwave. Don't know what the menu is on that route, though. It's just that the linked new reports made it sound like they "had to" order pizza because there was no other food available, particularly given the detail about other passengers sharing chocolate and Mother's Day champagne.

Bah, delivering to a stalled train is easy. Deliver to a moving train and I'll be impressed.

Give it a couple years so they can replace the delivery drivers with drone fleets.

Just out of curiosity I looked up the Café Car menu for some of the trains that run between New York and Washington (Lots of different trains run between those two cities). All the ones I looked at specifically listed DiGiorno pizza on the menu. So maybe someone just mistakenly assumed it had been delivered.

THANK YOU! I mean, I support our pizza delivery men and women as much as the next guy, but they signed up for this. If they want to be called heroes they've got to do more than just put on a uniform and walk out to a (stopped) train. My grand dad was in the pizza delivery business during WWII and no one ever called HIM a hero.

Presumably, those who sign up for the military also know what they're signing up for. So unless you're going to claim he also delivered pizza during a major battle or something, I'm not sure where you're going with this comparison.
