I don't know what's more eye-rolly, the idea that you can successfully treat appendicitis with ice to the stomach or the idea that applying ice to the stomach of a pregnant woman damages the fetus.

I think the subject (not the subject matter) is the most eye-rolling thing.

True, the whole "what if [insert name] had been aborted" trope is ridiculous. It's not like we'd all be sitting around thinking "Damn, I wish Andrea Boccelli's mom hadn't aborted him, so we could hear him sing."

I think it is mean how you all are flaunting your eye rolling abilities in front of him.

It actually counters it's message, I think, by emphasizing who it was. Supposedly, all life is equally valuable, but this suggests that Boccelli was more valuable, and you shouldn't have an abortion because maybe you'll have a valuable baby, too, instead of one of the masses of people who most people will never know.

I'm not going to comment on the medical aspect other than to say it sounds fishy but the quote is accurate. Here's a video with English subtitles.:

Plus if you're going to play that game, then you also have to contemplate what would have happened if Hitler's mother had had an abortion, etc. It's intellectually dishonest to only point to people you admire and think the world would be diminished by their absence.

Why limit yourself to facts? Invent some horrible person and say that the world was spared his evil because his mother chose to have an abortion.

Yeah, I heard the reason that people keep getting the identity of the Anti-Christ wrong is because the real one was qborted years ago.

My wife's mother was encouraged to abort her; she didn't*. As it happens, things turned out OK. The choice was hers, though. My wife chose to have an abortion when she became pregnant a fourth time (in spite of birth control measures) and was suffering severe health problems at the time. Not an easy decision to be sure, but we're confident that we made the right choice. A vasectomy later, and we're still glad that we were able to be in control of our reproductive health, guided by informed physicians.

* She had already had a stillbirth and was suffering complications with the second pregnancy.

I like stories where the woman gets to choose what she does about her pregnancy. I don't like it when those stories are held up as proof that other women shouldn't be allowed to make their own choices, too.

Good for him and good for his mother, but another mother may have had that procedure and made the opposite choice. Does that mean somehow that she's a lesser being because she chose to have the abortion instead? Like others have said does that mean only people you admire can be applied to that or should we also be grateful that Klara Hitler and Eleanor Cowell (mother to Ted Bundy) didn't have an abortion?

My personal favorites are when the anti-abortion people try to turn it into a "what if your mother had had an abortion?"

Those "you mother chose life" bumper stickers annoy me.

1) Leave other people's families out of your political statements
2) You don't know what choices anybody else's mother made or didn't make. You may not even know that about your own mother.

I've also seen "I'm glad Mary and Joseph weren't pro-choice."

Ignoring the religious aspect of that, there's the whole issue with the idea that pro-choice must mean that you'd always get an abortion for every pregnancy that you have, otherwise you're a hypocrite. Or something.

Here's one of the things I don't get.

Assuming you believe, as Christians generally do, in a god that is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, then, surely, he's not going to put the savior of mankind or the person who will cure cancer in the womb of someone who is going to abort or in a womb that will miscarry.

It makes no sense.

God has a plan that can account for everything except modern medicine.

But God created cancer in the first place, so who are we to tinker with it? Those who would must be stopped ...
