Driver Driver charged over car with no steering wheel

A South Australian man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught using vice grips instead of a steering wheel to drive a car.

Did they look on the left side of the car, where it belongs?

Not only did he have pliers as a steering wheel, he also had two blown tires. I wonder if they were from the accident the article refers to or from before it? Hopefully the driver he hit had insurance that'll cover him as I'm betting this guy has no money to pay them with.

What a great anti-theft deterrent. Just slip the vice grips in your back pocket and off you go. No need to lock the car.

Seriously, I used to go bush bashing with one of my mates who had a Morris 1100 with a spanner welded across the steering column. We didn't dare take it onto public roads however.

Yes, that and make sure no one can buy or own a pair of vice grips everywhere you go

Don't park outside hardware stores.

It's not the worst. When I snapped the accelerator cable on my Mini, I tied fishing line to the carbie, threaded it through the driver's window and put a curtain hook on the end.

It was a manual transmission, so I'll leave it to your imagination how I got around corners.

Pretty sure someone's not going to steal a car with two flat tires and no steering wheel. Like in the SNL Chamelion XLE commercial.

Vice vs Vise

I thought that vice was incorrect in this instance, but I was unaware that vise is simply an American variant! Until now!

While the video is funny, the caption "Tired of worring about your car being stoled..." has further eroded my faith in our education system.

It's spelled "stolt". As in, "my car done got stolt."

Sheesh!

I can remember a case (Pre-Internet) where someone was arrested driving a car which did have a steering wheel, but it had not doors, seats or seat-belts so the driver was sitting on a bean bag secured to the car with a rope...
