TV Tell FOX: Post a Disclaimer

Comment: I received the email below, and was wondering about the
legitimacy of the claim and the petition:

-----------------------------

Dear Friend,

FOX News' parent company News Corp made a $1 million contribution to help
elect Republican governors. This contribution crosses a line that FOX has
never crossed before, and takes FOX's bias to a whole new level.

But Fox hasn't even covered this unprecedented contribution on their news
station.

American's deserve to know about FOX's involvement in the elections,
especially in the 2010 Governor's races, which could have dramatic
implications for the balance of power in the U.S. Congress.

I just signed a petition asking News Corp and FOX to disclose the $1
million contribution during any of their coverage of the 2010
Gubernatorial elections.

I hope you'll join me.

I'm not sure what, exactly, you are supposed to be checking up on here.

The claim is legitimate. What is less obvious is what effect it should (or should not) have on their coverage, and just how appropriate the donation was. It does look bad, but, as the article points out, similar donations have been made by other parent companies of media outlets, although theirs were MUCH smaller and were often balanced out by donations to the opposing party.

The petion is legit as well. It's actually from my phone company (who I really, really like, btw, and would refer to others).

"Dear Fox: please stop lying and start telling the truth. Thank you."

It'd have about as much effect...

DGA Matches $1 Million News Corp. Contribution To RGA
Quote:
The Democratic Governors Association announced Tuesday that they have raised over $1 million to "match" the $1 million that Fox News' parent company, News Corporation, has given to the Republican Governors Association in the 2010 election cycle.

The announcement demonstrates the success Democrats have had painting Fox News as a mouthpiece for the Republican Party.

"When Fox News' parent company, News America, pumped a million bucks into this year's 37 governors' races, I bet they thought they'd be helping the Republican Governors Association snuff out Democratic state leaders and congressional majorities for years to come," the DGA's executive director, Nathan Daschle, wrote in an e-mail to supporters Monday. "Boy, did that backfire."

What now?

I guess a photograph could make a successful painting.

Meaning, I don't think it's so much that Democrats are painting Fox News as anything, Fox News is pretty good at demonstrating itself as a mouthpiece for the Republican Party without Democratic help. What this demonstrates is Democrats have been successful collecting money from a public outraged by that.
