Icon97 World's oldest mom bears twins at 67

A 67-year-old Spanish woman has become the world's oldest mother after giving birth to twins in Barcelona.

I think the most joy that a person experiences with parenthood is watching their children grow, and hopefully watching their grandchildren grow. Having a child at 67 pretty much cuts that short.

Did this mom just not go through menopause? Or is it possible to go through menopause and still have a baby with the proper fertility treatments?

I doubt she never went through menopause so I guess, yeah, it is possible to bear a child at any age if the right steps are taken. She may be the oldest woman who has done this but she is not the first post-menopausal woman to do so.

I wonder why she did this though as really as Bach Girl points out how likely is it that she will be able to raise this child? Granted there are no guarantees for any of us, at any age, but at 67 the odds are not in her favour that she will live to see the child grow up - or be able to stay hale, hearty and healthy enough to be actively engaged in the raising of the child in the meantime.

Yoo-hoo! snopes! Calling snopes! Yoo-hoo!

Shouldn't this be in the "Horrors" forum?

At the age of 66, I can honestly say that the thought of having one baby scares the heck out of me. Twins at 67? Yep, this should definitely be in "Horrors."

With IVF any woman with a uterus can carry a pregnancy.

That being said, I still think that's going too far. Fertility treatments aren't bad things, but menopause is still a point to stop. It may be wise to wait until you are in your late 30's or early 40's before being able to care for a child, but this just makes a mockery of the whole thing.
