Well, once you hit 100 your odds of dying on any given day are probably pretty high. So when we're talking 110+ it's bound to happen a lot.

Funny ... this one says Emiliano Mercado del Toro replaced 116-year-old Elizabeth “Lizzie” Bolden. No mention of the OP.

Surely it should be "World's previously oldest person not world's oldest person anymore"

The new world's oldest person is surprisingly even older than the previous!

But which one is older, 117 years old or 116 years old?

It's amazing. It's almost as if every one of them gets a year older every twelve months.

Just think how much harder it must be for the Guinness Book of Records to keep track of who is the world's youngest person.

And the world's most middle-aged person!

There are quite a few World War I vets still alive who are in the 100-110 range. Amazing to think about, but sad to think that soon they'll all be gone.

Yea. It's horrible. If I ever become the world's oldest person, I will kill myself.

The world's oldest man. There's a joke in there somewhere....

"Did you know Joan of Arc?"
"Knew her?! I went with her!"

For some reason, I equated that with the "Centenarian and the Delivery Truck" myth where a woman nearing one hundred is struck by a delivery truck the day before her birthday by the truck delivering her rather large birthday cake.

I don't know that I'd say 'quite a few'. According to wikipedia there are only 10 total in the US (& 2 of those claims are unverified) & only 35 total in the entire world. The last US woman to serve in WWI died earlier this year.

I can't find an accurate count of WWII veterans but I know they are dying at a very fast rate.
