I put stock in sightings of religious figures in the same league with sightings of Elvis, Bigfoot, and Nessie.... In other words, nonsense. When will people learn that people are programmed to recognize faces and look for patterns in life? It seems to be forgotten along with the tendency to find things when you are told where to look for them...

Sorry, these things just make me laugh.

I guess if people are that eager for validation of their religious beliefs, they'll go looking anywhere and everywhere.

According to Gestalt theory, doesn't the brain try to form random bits of information into logical simple shapes anyway? I can see how the human face would be a common thing to see (just look at how arranging your food into two dots above a curved line suddenly makes your plate into a happy face). And, if you're religious and looking for reinforcement of those beliefs, it's either Jesus or Mary. Ta-da.

Anyway, I would be extremely creeped out if Jesus were in my womb, and I feel like she's calling it a "miracle baby" far too soon. What will her opinion of Jesus be if she miscarries, or the baby is born with some disability? "JESUS!! You came into my womb and RUINED MY BABY!!! Bastard!"

...I have a weird sense of things.

Today at work we were talking about sightings. My coworker rubbed some paint on her office wall to see if she would like the color (she's repainting her office Saturday). The smudge ironically ended up looking like a woman bowing her head in prayer, but if you also looked hard enough, you saw a stormtrooper from Star Wars, a bald Quaker with a beard, and a woman with long hair doing one of Paris Hilton's three camerawhore poses.

I said that why do people always see Jesus, Virgin Mary, or Elvis on ordinary items or food? I saw a picture of a face in a tree on some website tonight and its owners swear it's Jesus. It looks more like Jimi Hendrix to me.

According to Michael Schermer (probably spelled wrong) (of Skeptic Magazine), we are pre-programmed to recognize faces since our recognition system of our brains looks for patterns that we understand.

People who are looking for signs of God (et al) will see faces of other religious people that are well knows since they are so familiar with them already.

Interesting. When I look at the door handles in my house I often think they look like a little face. The two screws at the top look like eyes, the handle in the middle looks like a nose and the screws at the bottom sort of merge to look like a mouth. Of course I know it's not a manifestation of any kind, but it's also struck me as odd that I always get that impression.

Could it be a diploid if two ova fused? Still a woman though.

I have that extremely cheap fake-knotty-pine paneling all over my house, and it's filled with faces, should I be bored enough to stare at the walls. Faces oddly stretched out, hollow-eyes, with pointy noses and mouths with no chins beneath them. They don't ever look like Jesus to me, but then even Jesus doesn't look like Jesus to me. 'Max von Sydow? Are you kidding? WTF?'

It's not obvious even after close study.

You need a life, young lady.

If anyone sees anything, please submit your answers to the 'Dail Mail'. (Who else?)

When I looked at the link I didn't even think to look at the "bearded baby" part, I was looking more @ the skull. You can see 3 slits (eyes & mouth) & what appears to be a crown of thorns, it's a profile picture...if that's not it, then yes the bearded baby is creepy!

That isn't Jesus (nor is it Gandalf or the Archbishop of Canterbury, as has been suggested) but clearly Osama Bin Laden.

Nuke Samsung!

Icon215 Holy face appears in Moorpark tree

To Irma Lopez, the figure on the tree in her yard in Moorpark is very clear.

It's the face of Jesus.

I'm glad Vincent Van Gogh is finally getting to appear in trees now. It was due, man.

(Yes, I realise he didn't cut off his whole ear, so you don't have to be all smarty-farty pants on me. So there! )

Even if that is the likeness of woman (which is hard to tell from the scale of the picture) how does anyone know that it is in fact the Blessed Virgin Mary? It's not like we have a photograph or contemporary portrait to compare it to.
I've always wondered that too. Same with the "Jesus images." Most of them could, with a stretch of imagination, be seen as an image of a bearded man. That could just as easily be old Mr. Jones down the street as it could be Jesus.

Of course their argument is that "Mr. Jones isn't the son of God so he cannot make his image appear in my tree, therefore it is jesus"

Icon605 Christ-Like Smudge Fetches Over $1,500

A smudge of driveway sealant resembling Jesus Christ's face has fetched more than $1,500 for the family that found the holy image on its garage floor.
