Blow Your Top Uranus might be full of surprises

Scientists used to think that things were pretty chill over in the south hemisphere of Uranus. In fact, they thought it was one of the calmest regions of any of the gas giants. But in analyzing images taken nearly three decades ago by NASA's Voyager-2 spacecraft, researchers think they've found a kerfuffle of activity — which might indicate that there's something unusual about the planet's interior.

(It's a serious science article! Stop giggling!)

Entire threads have been hijacked for less than this.

"I'm sorry, Fry, but astronomers renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all.."

"Oh. What's it called now?"

"Urectum!"

My high school science teacher nipped this problem in the bud and would only ever refer to this planet as "the 7th planet."

Last night's episode of Nova about the New Horizons space probe seemed like they were trying to get around that problem by using the other pronunciation. Because making it sound kind of like "urine us" is so much better.

If you have a bad enough Southern drawl it sounds like "You're an ass". I swear this planet is just doomed.

The only solution aside from renaming the planet is a more Greek pronunciation, something like oo-RAH-noss.

What about being grownups about the fact that a name for something also sounds like a reference to a body part?

Or were you talking about solutions that could actually happen?

The way the topic title was truncated on the main page, I was kind of hoping Uranus would be full of something else beginning with "s".

This thread prompted me to go to Wikipedia, where I found myself giggling at phrases like "Pierre Lemonnier observed Uranus at least twelve times between 1750 and 1769,[20] including on four consecutive nights." (If you know what I mean.)

I completely lost it when I got to "Exploration of Uranus". (Oh my)
