Default Memes that annoy you

The old thread was locked, so:

Even if all that stuff is true (I didn't bother to look it up), that doesn't mean maple syrup is good for you!. It's still sugar!

Sugar isn't, in and of itself, bad for you. Neither is fat. Or protein. Or starch. Or anything.

However, if maple syrup has minerals cane sugar doesn't, that could be useful information if you're lacking in them.

Not sure what the rate of deficiency is for any of those things, though.

Yeah, but sugar is one of those things Westerners generally eat too much of already, so it's fair to say/imply that it is bad for you.

"Silly rabbit, Easter is for Jesus!"

Excuse me? You celebrate Easter your way, and I'll celebrate it mine.

Just out of curiosity, according to that person, what is the One True Way to celebrate Easter?

Sugar isn't inherently bad for you, but the 4 Tablespoons mentioned above is 1/4 cup. Unless you are using the maple syrup to replace all of the sugar in your diet (which would be difficult if you don't make everything you consume from scratch) consuming a 1/4 cup of maple syrup per day in addition to significant amounts of other dietary sugar, will likely be an overall bad health decision.

Dunno. That's all the meme said. We don't really have time to analyze because there are more memes to post. This particular person posts almost nothing but memes. Mostly glurge about parenting, kids, friendship, aging, etc., with a healthy dollop of Jesus. And she posts them ALL. DAY. LONG. She's like a meme-machine.

I blocked her because she not only never says anything interesting, she never says anything at all!

Apparently not. I got blocked by a relative a few years ago because I disagreed with her objections to google making their doodle about Cesar Chavez's birthday when it fell on Easter. Bing, with decorated Easter eggs as its theme, was fine. Apparently, eggs are the symbol of rebirth, which celebrates the resurrection of the Lord and Savior. Chavez, with his devout Catholicism and defense of underpaid workers, was not fine at all. It probably didn't help that she seemed to have him conflated with Hugo Chavez.

I ran into a friend in Target who was complaining about how the gift giving and everything has gotten out of control at Easter. I suggested that she just her buy her kids chocolate crosses to remind them the true meaning of Easter, 'Jesus died on a big chocolate cross for our sins'. I might have said it too loudly based on the horrified look of a woman walking by.

And as with most christian holidays, wasn't the date stolen from a pagan celebration?

Rabbit

As with most of such "holidays stolen from the pagans" stories the answer is between "not really" and "not not nearly as much as many people think". The date, for example, comes from Passover so, no, it wasn't at all.

Default Source for this quote?

I was trying to find a source for the below Thomas Sowell quote Is it legit?

The real motives of liberals is they have nothing to do with the welfare of other people. Instead, they have two related goals - to establish themselves as morally and intellectually superior to the rather distasteful population of common people and to gather as much power as possible to tell those distasteful common people how they must live their lives.

In Googling that, I'm coming up with many sources attributing "the real motives of liberals is they have nothing to do..." attributed to him.

Yea, my bad on the extra words.

Sorry.

I am finding links, but almost always to the specific meme but nothing to show the source.

Regarding having the week off between Christmas and New Year's Day.

December 25th and 26th are legal holidays in Luzern
January 1st and 2nd are legal holidays in Luzern

The non holiday week days between December 26th and January 1st are compensated. That means that all the hourly workers actually work 41.5 hours per week* for all the compensated days, which are days that the company is closed, but not legal holidays. Of the top of my head, there are approximately 5 days per year which have to be compensated.

For those who are not hourly, they are expected to work a lot more hours per week. So everyone already worked to earn the time off.

* Not sure the actual hours per week as I am no longer hourly, so I haven't been keeping track.

Summer vacation is similar, for those who work in the factory. The factory is closed for 2 weeks, and the factory workers have to take those 2 weeks for vacation. In one of our other facilities, the workers have to take 1 additional week at the same time, so those people take 3 weeks (of approximately 5 weeks) of vacation at the same time.

In Switzerland, most companies require all employees take at 2 weeks off at the same time. In most banks, it is mandatory. Supposedly the 2 week vacation is long enough to expose any financial funny business.

The second review on this site indicates the quote comes from his book The Vision of the Anointed. He doesn't seem a particularly likely subject for misattribution--he's not Einstein or Shakespeare or Lincoln--and it does sound like the sort of thing he might say. That's not to say it's definitely accurate, but I don't feel the need to buy the book to be sure.

No, that is my bad typing.

I could not get the meme to post as I wanted, so I typed the text and didn't catch my error.

Maybe this link will work.
