Addams Family (2019)

First I've heard of this! This article is from last June, and the movie is scheduled for an October release. Just in time for Halloween.


This will be a CGI animated movie, with a style going back to Charles Addams' original art style. No trailers as yet that I can find.

I am cautiously optimistic. I've always been a big fan of the Family. They were always my favorite over the Munsters, which I did also enjoy. It will be hard to top the two movies that came out in the 90s. They were instances of a tv-to-movie adaptation done right!

The "Gru"-looking character is pretty close to Chas Addams' original designs for the character that would come to be known as Uncle Fester.

Another cool cartoon ruined by TV and movies. We must have had almost every book of them. (At least every one published between '50 and '75)

I'll agree that the TV show, movies, etc., didn't catch the tone of the original one-panel cartoons, but in fairness, I probably wouldn't have taken an interest in the original cartoons if I hadn't been exposed to the characters through the TV show. I think "ruined" is a bit strong - the original cartoons are still there.

I think that's more of a YMMV situation. I enjoyed the TV show as a kid, discovered and enjoyed the print cartoons as a young adult (thanks to used book stores and a solid handful of hardbound Chas Addams collections, still on my bookshelves), and very much enjoyed the two movies from the 1990's - the first movie was one of my first VHS purchases as a Christmas gift for my wife. Personally wouldn't call any of it "ruined" by any of the other facets.
