If the guy who drives the forklift tells you to get out of the way, you get out of the bloody way!

And no, it doesn’t matter what you were doing or who you actually answer to. He’s in a forklift.

What if they’re driving a steam roller?

If the guy driving the forklift has to tell you to get out of the way, consider leaving the warehouse. One shouldn't step in a warehouse unless they are hyper-aware of their surroundings.

If I have a stop sign, and you don't, that means YOU go first. Stopping, and thus stopping the cars behind you, and waving at me to go is foolish. The driver ended up waiting for about 20 seconds, then flicking me off as he finally went.

One of my favorite videos; and we actually use it at work as part of forklift training (an addendum, not the official part).

I knew it was going to be Klaus before I even clicked the link.

We actually discussed this video way back when I was relatively new to this board. I'm slightly surprised you use it for real training because it is, of course, not a real training video but rather a parody of training videos. Ok, you did say it's not in the official part of the training.

It's the basically humorous, over-the-top "icebreaker" intro vid for those who are seeking the basic forklift certification. A lot of the people on the job (fire department) aren't really interested in certain aspects of the job - for instance, historically, dedicated fire fighters are often uninterested in the EMT/paramedic side of the job, even if it's a necessary part of the job - so grabbing their interest with Klaus and his antics really helps them go through the rigorous half-hour actual training video and 25-question quiz. And the video isn't exactly lacking in some real-world information about the dangers and consequences of forklift operation; it's just more so.

Well, we can't do ALL the heavy lifting.

Does... does that count in the pun rankings?

To the people in my volunteer job. When I was telling you of the wide range of equipment I have used in my work, it wasn't because I actually thought they were anything like the equipment in your library. I know they aren't. And in fact, apart from being laboratory equipment, most are nothing like each other. Some of the equipment, well I was one of the few who was allowed to use it.

I have also used a smaller range of equipment in libraries. Once again nothing like each other.

My memory is shocking but the library equipment I learned after I have these issues. We good instructions and some early supervision I pick it up quite well.

Mom, I am using my snow shovel to clear off the sidewalk I use and the sidewalks of my next door neighbors. That's how much energy I have for shoveling. I am not going to go marching around the neighborhood offering to shovel off the sidewalks of people I don't know if they'll pay me.

That might be acceptable behavior if I were 15. At 37 that's tacky.

Also, I'm not that hard up for money.

And in an emergency situation like this it's better to just help people for free.

Crocoduck, clearly you're still 15 to your mom.

Mom is obsessed with the idea of my making money. Any minute I'm not out there scrounging for chump change is a minute wasted.

Heck, when I've told her that I decided to give something away because I no longer wanted or needed it, she's gotten upset because I could have sold it (though usually I really couldn't have).

And, of course, she's always complaining about the creepy strangers who show up at her front door asking to do odd jobs for pocket change.

Maybe you can tell your mom that you are spending your free time downtown begging for spare change, or busking?

To the dental office that advertises on the station I listen to: I don't think that offering discounts on tooth whitening and other services as a Valentine's Day gift is going to go over that well.

[obviously the promotion is still running]

TYSHTTP: Before you make an offer on a house, get pre-approved by your bank for a mortgage. People came by, loved our house, made a good offer, and then emailed a week later to say that their bank wouldn't lend them as much as they offered. I don't think it is even close.
Dang, it was a very good offer too.

TYSHTTP: Local grocery store, it's a Saturday afternoon--why are only two checkout lines open? Not everyone likes the self-checkout lines; some tempers, such as mine, do not play well with them.

[this was last Saturday and I was not the only one fuming]
