In parts of Northern Colorado, many churches had German-language services up until the First World War, or even later. Interestingly, many of those old churches are in the older parts of the towns, in neighborhoods which have older, smaller houses and are relatively poor. Lots of immigrants live in those neighborhoods, and many of the former German-language churches are now Spanish-language churches.

My grandparents were born in this country but all of my family (including myself) still speak the language of our great-grandparents. Of course, they emigrated here from England...
