Icon81 I broke my wrist

Damned black walnuts! Thankfully it's a very small fracture, but I'm wondering: how long will it take to fully heal? A month? I've been wearing a soft cast since last Thursday and popping the Aleve.

So, no going to your place for freshly baked cake? Can't stir the batter!

Hopefully the pain and swelling die down soon. That is the worst (never broke a wrist, but have other parts of my body).

When I broke mine, it took 8 weeks in a hard cast. The cast had to be changed once in the middle because it became loose. (Mainly from atrophy--broken wrists don't swell much). It took a few months to get full range of motion back. This was most noticeable when bending it backwards, like when you use your hand for support when getting up from the floor, or similar.

The most annoying lingering effect was that I lost muscle and possibly a fat pad on my palm on that hand, and it made my hand get sore from using my laptop after only a short time. That issue lasted years.

My fracture was at the end of the radius bone, right at the joint, with three fracture lines. It was nondisplaced, so no surgery or anything. I hope yours is quicker to heal and with fewer effects.

Is it ski season there already?

Usually a broken bone takes about 6 weeks to knit. But remember, dam it, I'm an engineer, not a doctor.

Only if you bring a freshly baked cake! Lucky for me I'm left handed.

So, I take it you broke your right wrist (after having stepped on a walnut?).

I hope the pain abates soon, and that your cake stirring powers are put to good use in the mean time.

Well it's been a week and my wrist feels much much better! I still get twinges of pain if I move it in certain directions, and I still wear the brace when I think I need it, but the swelling has gone down and I can flex my hand.

I am glad that it is doing better. Try to avoid karate chopping things for a while.
