So, this woman is incompetent and defensive about it? I know it's really easy for an outsider to say this, but your HR people really need to do something about her. As the payroll person, she has tons of power, and if she's misusing it, that's a problem.

I've gotten so used to communicating quickly with certain family and friends on Facebook that I get unreasonably concerned when I notice they haven't been on FB for a certain length of time! It's actually a good thing if someone isn't living their life on their computer, let alone FB! And yet I still have this nagging feeling of "what if something's wrong" .

Yeah, my parents did that when they remodeled the house when I was in junior high.

And it was in a room with 11 foot vaulted ceilings.

I just found a flea on my leg. I don't own any animals and haven't been in the vicinity of one since Saturday.

I'm going to take a wild guess and speculate that Cervus doesn't own any humans either.

My backyard became flea infested one summer, when I had opossums living under the platform of the old shed.

She's very likely been in the vicinity of some, however; though I don't know for sure.

I guess we're old-fashioned. Remote for TV, DVD player, blu-ray player, TV box (from the internet company) and 2 for the audio receiver. Also clocks, cooking thermometer and cameras. And that's not including the strange batteries for the scales (cooking and person) and the car access fobs.

I still use a stand-alone kitchen timer when cooking instead of my phone.

I don't have TV, but my daughters do at their place. And it is connected to the wifi, so their phones act as their remotes. All six of them in that house can control the tv from wherever they are!

Around here, my game controllers and the smoke detector are the only things that take batteries. Even my bicycle headlights are rechargeable by USB. Not to mention every entertainment device I have.

20 years ago, I would have had lots of need for batteries, just not now.

The same way I do, probably.

-- unfortunately, the computer becomes more like a TV all the time. And it's a whole lot harder to manage without a computer than without a TV.

Yes. I changed it because it was too long. I still think of Jasper every time we get a bad storm. Good memory!

We recently bought a pack of double A's because of clocks we've been putting up around the place. I know "we all" have a clock available all the time now via our phones, but it's still faster for me to turn my head and check a wall clock than it is to pull my phone out to wake it up. (if, in fact, my phone is actually on my person/nearby)

I spend most days working at a table in my living room. I have the time available on two screens, my smart phone, at least one watch and on the mantel clock. I invariably check the mantel clock when I want to know the time. I know this because I sometimes take the batteries out of this clock do it won't announce each quarter hour while I'm on the phone. When I do this I momentarily lose the ability to know what time it is until I remember all the other clocks within my reach.

I know we're concerned here because we don't seem to have any active moderation going on - well there are worse things. I'm about to pack up and leave one of the few remaining message boards I participate in because at least one of the mods is heavily playing favourites and goes in deleting posts without, as far as I can tell, any valid reason. I've had a few posts deleted which is maddening but it's not me taking things personally, there are a number of us who seem to be targeted. Not sure if there's an agenda going on or not but if the goal is to discourage participation and get people to leave, well, mission accomplished .

I've left message boards that had that happen. One in particular had a new moderator brought in who turned out to be friends with one of the resident trolls. The new mod immediately began attacking the same people as the troll while letting the troll flaunt forum rules at will.

Five Below does not sell those interlocking foam tiles anymore (at least the one closest to me does not), so now I have to order them from Amazon.
