Comment: In charity appeals, I frequently see a statistic that by spending
$1 in prevention, we save $7 down the road in intervention. I am skeptical about this for a number of reasons: 1. a specific study is never quoted. It just says, "Research shows..." 2. The $1 and $7 figure are used in everything from child abuse to illiteracy to poison control. That it is always $1 and $7 for such a broad range of problems, makes me skeptical. |
