GP hulls are also vulnerable to a powerful laser at a very specific point since they are comprised of a single molecule held together with an internal power plant.

Yes, that's right - GP hulls are, in their "natural" state, transparent to at least the visible portion of the EM spectrum (as well as gravity - but then, not much blocks gravity); interior spaces are painted for privacy and protection against too much EM. And if that internal generator goes out, the molecule, she isn't so strong, anymore.

Haven't read any Niven in like three years, except for the last couple of volumes in the "--- of Worlds" books he coauthored with Edward Lerner. Now I must go through my aging collection once again.
