I had a feeling that would be the one. Funny thing, I just gave up on it a couple weeks ago.

From what I read in the message, it seems like the author of the strip has some health trouble. So it might take a while before he heals his shoulder and start drawing again. Things like that happen. But when he starts again, you'll know about it.

She's had health problems as long as she's been doing the strip that have caused frequent delays, but two years ago she was in a car crash and hasn't been able to draw ever since.

That's happened with so many webcomics I follow. There are a few I was excited to "get in on the ground floor" as they were just starting out with art I liked and a cool premise.

I feel like I've seen so many good comics come and go, but then I have to remind myself I've been interested in the medium for around 10 years now, so there's bound to have been lots of turnover in that time.

I surprise myself sometimes when I look at a list of comics I used to read only to see they haven't updated in 4-5 years. Has it really been that long? Didn't I just read that last page last summer....?

Yeah, one of the problems is that a lot of people don't realize just how much work it takes to create a comic. They think they're just going to be able to bang out some panels and presto, in comes the income. But if you really want to support yourself making webcomics, you've got to create stuff steadily, not just whenever the inspiration hits you.

And you can run out of steam either gradually or suddenly. The percent of webcomics that last a year or longer is exceptionally small, and the percent that actually finish (that is, come to a complete conclusion and not ending on a "hiatus- new pages soon, I promise!" message from the artist) even rarer. (Ones that had a planned end from the beginning and actually make it to that end? I only know a few off hand).

Many comics don't make it even past page 3. I noticed this more years ago when the medium was more popular (or at least different- social media sharing has changed the kinds of comics people make to some extent), younger people would start comics, become disappointed that-
1. by update #2 they weren't the next Penny Arcade,
2. even with things like Patreon it's exceptionally rare to make considerable money at all, let alone enough to support oneself,
3. advertising a "soon to come" upcoming comic generates no hype (unless you're an author of an already popular comic and can count on readers transitioning to the new one),

-and then drop the project.

There's that feeling when you walk into a room and forget what you were going to do there, and there's the same feeling when you log onto your computer and forget what you were supposed to look up... .

Our move went well overall, as painless as those things can be. The cats are adjusting well, and we all seem to like the new place better (bigger, lots more natural light).

My FWP: We were scheduled with AT&T to have our internet and TV (uverse) installed Saturday -- my daughter had arranged it all last week. When they didn't arrive by 3, my daughter called them. After fighting her way through AT&T's miserable IVR to a real person (she had to call twice because the IVR got stuck in a loop the first time), and being put on hold multiple times, she was told that they are unable to provide service at our address due to a facilities issue. The earliest they could provide service would be May 1, would we like to schedule that?

So 1) we're back to Spectrum, which we hate and 2) we won't have internet until Tuesday.

I was (finally) granted access to search a particular database at work that contains PII. This means I have to access it through the secure work environment, or SWE. In order to run reports, I need a plug in that you can easily download from our company software portal. Except that you can't access the portal from within the SWE.

So I can't run reports, which means the database is useless to me.

ETA: Apparently, the plugin is supposed to already be in the SWE, so my problem may be something different. Oh, joy.

Again, keep getting all these mothereffing Terf pins in my feed.

In the unlikely event that some Terfs are reading this post, if you identify as a feminist, yet find yourself sharing some of the same beliefs as the toxic, bigoted stew that makes up the Christian Right, you need to pause and rethink whether you should call yourself a feminist.

Rarely does one ever encounter a group so badly misnamed as the Terfs.

I am guessing that unfortunately, it has nothing to do with being really into Nerf.

It stands for Trans-Excluding Radical Feminist. They don't believe trans women are women.

Update: I can now run the reports. I cannot, however, print them (which actually means creating a pdf file that I can then email to myself using a special program).

So, still an FWP.
