I like that the site posted this link in mid-article:

The tone of that article disturbed me. "Americans would just shrug it off because porn is A-OK!" No. This would be a crime in the United States, too, for many reasons. Hacking aside, forcing pornography on people is a radically different thing than having it available. I'm not even sure what the word for it would be, but if I were on that road, I would feel violated in some way.

Also, many people in the US believe that viewing pornography is morally wrong, or at the very least problematic.

I'm not sure who you're making fun of here. Do you support showing pornographic films to children?
That is actually a crime in many places in the U.S. Even if it wasn't, showing children pornography is a common practice of pedophiles in the grooming process, and that is one of many reasons why forcing pornography on people--such a thing can be very triggering for adult victims of child abuse--is really not good. ETA: Am I really being asked to defend the position that forcing people to view pornography isn't good? Egads. Why, then, are there laws against flashing people? |

Eh, mostly just that there would be much freaking out if it happened in the US. Even if no children actually saw it.
But there are places in Europe where you can find hardcore pornographic material being sold uncensored in regular shops where kids might see it and yet they still manage to grow up to be normal, healthy individuals. |

*eta* nevermind - Crocoduck defended his point on his own* On the fundamental level, it's wrong on the basic level due to it being illegal. We don't need to inject morality - it's illegal and a bad idea. |

Nitpick: it was Helen Lovejoy, not Maude Flanders. Same voice actress though.

It sounds like you are saying that people who would "freak out" over being subjected to a pornographic film in a situation where they could not avoid seeing it are overreacting if they object.

*Shrug*
What can I say, as long as it's not something like snuff or watersports or something, I just don't see much that's terribly objectionable about consensual sex or why suddenly seeing it public on a billboard would be worse than, say, suddenly seeing the dinner scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. |

Do not look that one up. If you're like me, you'll wish for more bugs and less stupid. How did anything that awful ever make it to the big screen?

In Germany, you'll find pronographic magazines and sometimes DVDs of the softcore variety in regular newsagents - up on the top of the shelf, out of the reach of children, not displayed in an advertising manner, and easily avoided. Hardcore porn is sold in "adults only" shops only. In Denmark and Sweden, which both have the reputation to be quite liberal about the porn business, I saw no more explicit offers when I was travelling there in the last years. I haven't been to Amsterdam for years, but there, too, I didn't see any hardcore porn on display where kids might see it. I doubt that any other European country is more liberal. Apart from that, streaming porn to a public announcment display would be considered both wrong and illegal in all these countries - and rightly so, IMHO. |

Aren't 'naughty bits' pixelated in Japanese adult movies? Not that it makes it less adult.

Interesting that you mention consent, as none of the people sitting in traffic had consented to viewing pornographic material.

I'm also gonna throw out there that "hardcore Japanese porn" is not always like... Super great on the "depicting consent" angle. (Neither is hardcore American porn for that matter. Yes, the actors are usually consenting to doing the acts and being filmed while doing them, but that consent is not always actually depicted, which is an important consideration.)
