Icon97 Locals up in arms over new adult baby fetish store in Illinois town

A new business, a baby store for adults, is sparking outrage in suburban Mt. Prospect, Illinois, CBS Chicago reported. Dozens of residents showed up at village hall Tuesday night, calling for the business to be shut down or moved. However, officials said they had no legal basis to bar the business, Tykables, which includes features such as a seven-foot crib, an over-sized high chair and adult-sized playpen.

The doors are locked at the store and customers can only enter by appointment. White panels cover the windows, for privacy.
OMG! I am being harmed because I know that something is going on somewhere that I don't approve of!

Well you and I should just go down there and protest it! Who else is up for a road trip?
Several years ago an adult store opened in Old Town Manassas (VA). Oh the horror! You would have thought that the store had dildos on display and NFBSKing manikins in the front window. One lunch hour I went for a walk and had the worst time finding the place. It looked just like an ordinary women's lingerie store both in the front window and inside. Any naughty stuff was out of sight, presumaby behind the counter somewhere or in one of the back rooms whose doors were closed. I don't know if the store is still there or not, but its arrival caused quite an uproar.

"They're not having sex with their diapers on, they're having people feed them and act like a baby," explained one resident at the meeting.
Am I the only one who finds the tone of this quote somewhat ambiguous in the context given? From the tone of the rest of the article, I expected the quote to be from someone who is against it being there, but interpreting it in that light makes it sound like the residents are ticked off because they were hoping for a brothel or swingers' club or live pornography theater to go in that location instead.

Also, I thought it would be rather obvious that diapers could not be worn (at least not in their normal placement) while having sex--if not, I must be seriously confused about the mechanics of either diapers or sex or both...

The outraged people had better never visit Germany! I don't think it went so far as dildos in the windows, but there were quite a few very obvious adult stores displaying very racy lingerie and fetishy attire in their window displays, often in perfectly respectable shopping areas. Although they did seem to get more concentrated in certain areas--during one particular trip, there was a lot of teasing of the family member who had booked our hotels, since (in the search for decent but economical accommodations) he pretty consistently landed us in areas with numerous sex shops and/or right near the red-light district. The hotels were perfectly nice and the areas perfectly clean and safe; we just ended up walking past a lot of interesting window displays!

My parents used to live in a small town and there was a big uproar when the local hotel decided to reinvent itself as a club with strippers. Considering just how small the town was you do have to wonder what the hell the owners were thinking. The place went out of business within a year.

Many years ago locals were in an outrage that a "porn shop" (supposedly the first of its kind in the area) was opening in our sleepy little retirement town. The Guardian Angels (?) or some such group even showed up and stood guard at the driveways, warning off visitors.

During a get together some friends started discussing it, saying how disgusting and horrible it was. They asked my why I was so complacent (I'm sure they figured I would be one of the first visitors). My response?

"Don't see how it's any worse than the strip club across the street."

"What? Strip club? Where?"

I explained that there was strip club across the street from the soon to arrive porn shop. They all thought it was just a night club. No. I never went there, but did work with some guys that did since it was in the same strip mall as our employer. One kid even saw his former babysitter "dancing" there. He said it was a little awkward at first.

The strip club is gone now as is that first porn shop, though it has been replaced by a newer one named "Jack and Jill". Some women I work with looked it up on-line when it had a "Coming Soon" sign up, decided it was a children's clothing store and could not wait for it to open so they could get a little something for the grand kids. I volunteered to take them on a shopping trip as soon as it opened. By that time it was obvious what kind of shop it is, so no field trip.

And they might want to stay out of Switzerland. Last month the train station in Luzern had multiple billboards advertising various sex toys with a website address. Not hidden away in a corner, but in the main area where all the tourist arrive from Zürich and leave for Interlaken.

*sings*

How much is that dildo in the window?
The one with the waggley head?
How much is that dildo in the window?
I do hope that dildo's for sale.

I must take a trip to California
And leave my poor sweetheart alone
If he has a toy, he won't be lonesome
And the dildo will have a good home

(chorus)

I read in the papers there are perverts
With fleshlights that shine in the nook
My love needs a dildo to protect him
And scare them away with one look.

Or Toronto -- at Spencers Gifts -- where the front of the store sells t-shirts featuring cartoon characters and the back of the store has sex toys and games sitting openly on the shelves without any real signage or warnings. And are in pretty much every major shopping center?

The Spencer's stores in my area closed long ago, but ISTR a sign saying "Over 18 Only" in the "naughty" section.

They aren't anymore. I can't remember the last time I saw a Spencer's.
