Hello Kitty Family throws elaborate quinceañera for their 15-year-old cat

Quote:
Pets are a part of our families, and we will go to the end of the earth and beyond to make them feel that way.

So, when Luna the cat from Charlotte, North Carolina, turned 15 (!!), she got the party she always dreamed of: an extravagant, pink quinceañera.

My cat had better not read this and get any ideas.

If my cats read this they will be under the furthest corner of the bed the day they turn 15.

Even the one who likes parties with lots of humans would vehemently object to being dressed up.

-- and what's with those exclamation marks after 15? There's nothing all that unusual about a 15 year old cat. Almost all of mine so far have made it to between 17 and 20+ (I don't know exactly how far 20+, he showed up at my neighbors' as an adult.)

I put a bowtie on her once in a while. She gets this look of "I look good" after I've finished velcroing the ribbon and doesn't fuss with it at all. So she might wear a dress.

Kitap, I don't know if she's indulging your or herself, but either way I'm a fan.

Yeah, it's normal for indoor cats to live to be 15. I work for a vet and we don't start saying "oh wow" until the cat is 18 or 19.

Here's a photo of her wearing it. Her expression is because she dislikes camera flashes.

I'm hoping China will make it. Mittens and Pumpkin lived to 9.5 and 13.5 respectively.(When I adopted China in 2008, my then-coworker said she was 3 or 4.)

I'm hoping Scout makes it too, but I'll probably throw him a bar mitzvah too just in case.

Yes, I know quinceaneras are for girls. I don't care.

I wish you and the cat well, but please don't.

My cat lived until he was 20. I wish I'd had him much longer, but he would soo not have let me dress him up in anything. He was extremely dignified, at least in his opinion, and would have not spoken to me for at least a week.

Our Joey, who lived to 18, was an impossibly tolerant cat. We got a bowtie for him just for special occasions- we never kept it on very long, but he really didn't seem to care that it was on. Then again this was the same cat who, in his later years, became so unfazed by anything that we could use one of the vacuum attachments on him to remove loose fur.

I do not have a cat and it has been many years since I lived with one.

Would a cat understand that this is a once in a lifetime experience?

I do have a dog and have lived with dogs the last twenty years or so.

If I did this for my dog the next day she would be like, "so where's the party? I had a party yesterday, so why are we not having a party today? We have always had parties. Why are you being so mean to me?"

Had he become deaf? That sometimes happens with old cats.

When I had an older cat who stopped being afraid of the vacuum, and would let me vacuum her, it turned out that she'd gone deaf and couldn't hear it.

The cat would probably be hoping that it wouldn't happen again.

I think they do distinguish between things that happen often, things that happen rarely but repeatedly, things that happen at specific times of day, and things that have never happened to them before; but I doubt they've got any category for "once in a lifetime".

tl- It is likely he had lost some hearing, perhaps lower-register. He seemed to be able to hear some other sounds such as certain drawers opening/us calling his name, etc. He was a really good old fellow.
