Icon84 Black Widow Cigarette

This is one of those stories that was told by a classmate about the brother of a friend. Anyway:

A marijuana addict ran out of weed to smoke and really wanted to smoke something to get high. However, he couldn't find anything until he came across a nest of black widows. Capturing these spiders, he put them in a plastic container, microwaved them so that they were crisp, ground them up and smoked them in a makeshift cigarette.

He almost died in the hospital after that. Apparently, the venom of the spiders was still active and when he inhaled it into his lungs it took effect.

Makes sense to me. If there's one thing I know about weed, it's that ground up microwaved spiders are universally accepted as the closest approximation. Any time any experienced pothead runs out with nobody to call, they head for the nearest musty basement or neglected woodpile to gather up some of those dank, dank arachnugs.

This article says that heating latrotoxins reduces their toxicity because they are protein based. If so, heating until the spider crisps, then burning the result would probably destroy the toxicity.

Starting the thing off with "marijuana addict" casts doubt on the whole thing in itself, for me.

Marijuana is not generally addictive; and does not generally make one lose one's mind to the point at which one might think that poisonous spiders are a good substitute for marijuana.

Do black widows even nest in groups? I thought they were pretty solitary, like most spiders.

I had to look this one up. I knew that during active times, they are loners, except for mating, but I was nor sure about winter. I have seen rattlesnakes wintering together - they will find tight but relatively extensive caves and hibernate the whole winter in the thousands together. But on my web-search I found that even during the winter, black widows are loners, finding a small sheltered crevice to curl up in until the food supply regenerates.
