Skull Ghosts at Ballys Las Vegas

I was researching 1980 MGM Grand Hotel fire in Las Vegas and found the following story in a Youtube comment:

Quote:
Has anyone heard about the Ballys guests that have since seen "ghosts" in the old wings of the hotel since the disaster..There is a story about one particular repeating ghost of an older woman that dies while refusing to leave her lucky slot machine and burned up and is sometimes "seen" still sitting at a machine.

I know from my own research that people were killed by the fireball in the casino proper (as opposed to being suffocated in their rooms by smoke.), but now I am curious about these (highly unlikely) ghost stories.

I don't believe in ghosts, but something about Bally's creeps me out more than any building I've ever been in. I don't know if it's something visually off or the air or the lighting, but the first time I walked in I instantly hated it and felt like I just wanted to get back out in the street. I went again a couple years later and had the same reaction. I'm less likely to blame the supernatural and more likely to blame being somewhat sensitive to interior spaces (which means that I'm good at manipulating them to positively affect my mood, but that being in a bad space bugs me the way an annoying background sound would). I wouldn't be surprised if other people had a similar reaction. One of my design school teachers had a theory that some 'haunted' or 'cursed' spaces simply involved bad or strange design that threw people off without them realizing it.

I believe I've hear that theory as well. Buildings that supposedly have visual or audio cues that act on a part of our subconscious that's a leftover of the time when humans were at risk of being attacked by predators on a regular basis. With our brains' natural tendency to also see patterns where none existed, we began inventing ghosts and monsters in order to explain what caused the sudden sensations of fear.

This covers a lot about the auditory side: http://www.cracked.com/article_18828...sightings.html

I'm certain there's a similar set of visual cues. For a single, minor data point, I have my own odd experience with a particular visual pattern. When I was in college, I had a set of sheets that had a very bright primary colored "undersea" pattern (don't judge). The pillowcases had a bright red starfish, outlined in white, on a bright blue-turquoise background. Every damned time I used those sheets I'd have the experience of seeing something moving or vibrating out of the corner of my eye. I quickly figured out that it happened when the starfish was in my peripheral vision. I have no idea why it did that, but it was so consistent that I learned to dismiss it as "just the pillowcase."

I would think there could be similar patterns that would affect people where the pattern is on a much larger and subtler scale, so that it isn't obvious what's disturbing about it.
