Baseball The Video That Won First Place at Cannes

(Feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum. Not sure if it belonged here or somewhere else)

I just received an email touting:

Quote:
The Video That Won First Place At Cannes only takes about 15 seconds to watch and you'll see why it won 1st place.
This is the video:

I can't find anything - except for one site - saying it won anything at Cannes. Also in the minus side, I had no idea when this ad was made (much less which country).

What the heck do they mean by "1st place"? Obviously not the Palme d'Or, when it's an ad for a childhood cancer association (Ninos con Cancer Asociacion AFANOC), not a film. I know Cannes gives different awards for different things, but I'm having a hard time believing they give awards for ads.

OK, a video that sappy and sentimental really doesn't strike me as Cannes material. It's a cute commercial. But it isn't special in any way at all.

It seems like a way to get you to watch an advert for a cancer charity, really.

There doesn't appear to be an advertising category at Cannes (this year's winners are listed here), and I don't see why that would win anything even if there was one. There are some clips from the film that did win the short film category 2009, "Arena" by João Salaviza, in this interview video, and it's clearly nothing to do with that.

If it was at Cannes, it would have been at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival

I would search past winners -- only 2009 nominees are available -- but I can't justtify spending 75 Euros for a days access to past nominees.

Looking around the net - and getting my 2 word vocabulary of Spanish together - I can find this video referenced quite a number of times as having won an award at Cannes. Though they do not agree on the year, I've seen 2002, 2003, 2007 - the latter can't be, though, since there's at least one post from Feb 2002, and Cannes festivals aren't held until June.

I can guess that an ad like that can be rewarded in the PR category, the other 10 seem out of the line. Googling any combo of these, I cannot find anything of substance, though.

I want to know how I, too, can watch a 50 second video in 15 seconds!

Play it using VLC or XBMC, they allow you to speed it up.
