Default 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' actor Bob Einstein dead at 76

(CNN)Bob Einstein, whose 50-year career as a comedy writer and performer ranged from "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" to Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," has died. He was 76.

Perhaps better known to some of us as "Super Dave Osborne."

Celebrity deaths come in threes, as they say...

Mark Evanier has some words to add on this one:

The obits I've seen so far either forget or minimize how many shows he was involved with, behind-the-scenes. They included the show with the Smothers Brothers but also Bizarre (with John Byner), Van Dyke and Company (with Dick Van Dyke), various shows with Sonny Bono (with and without Cher), Pat Paulsen's Half a Comedy Hour, Redd Foxx's variety show and many more. What those shows all had in common was a mischievous sense of humor and a profound attempt to do things on television that no one had ever done before. That probably wasn't wholly because of Bob Einstein but those goals were present in all his work.

Who lives closest to Gutter Monkey and can console him?

I really loved the Super Dave Osbourne character. Looking back on that, I can see things which might have inspired others, like Andy Kaufman.
RIP Bob.

My brother and I loved Super Dave. We'd even try to design stunts that we wanted to send off to the production company for Einstein to film.

A big part of my youth just flashed before my eyes.

RIP Bob.

I had forgotten he was Albert Brooks' brother.

When I first saw the post I ignored it, since I had never seen Curb Your Enthusiasm, but dang, I loved Super Dave. We had a guy in college we called Super Dave since he was so enthusiastic...and dangerously naive and stupid.
