A small touch to note: the shot of the Death Star explosion used after they show Gary Kurtz is the pre-"special edition" version. I think Kurtz would have preferred it that way.

Are you sure? I saw a pan, then a firework (there is no pan in the original).

I think I've mentioned this before, but I hate the premature nature of these "in memoriam" pieces - they're produced and shown right before Christmas, rather than after New Year's Day. Consequently, anyone who should be on the list who dies in the last 10 or so days of the year doesn't get in, and doesn't make next year's list either. This one (published on Dec 14, ferchrissakes) omits Penny Marshall and Donald Moffat.

BTW, I know this was oriented towards the film industry, but some of these people deserved recognition for occupations other than the ones listed. The stage magic community, for example, might think categorizing Ricky Jay merely as "actor" is a bit off the mark.

I believe they edit in the late ones; I think they had to patch in Carrie Fisher, and as I recall it wasn't a slapdash effort.

On review I think you're right - I didn't notice it was a firework rather than the actual explosion. I was just noticing it didn't have that stupid 'ring' effect.

I saw it this a couple of nights ago and they had added Penny Marshall. I thought it a pretty good production for a dead list. I noticed that I had missed Sondra Locke's demise. A bit surprising since Clint Eastwood seems to be planning to direct (and/or act) forever.
