Icon401 Bigfoot revisited

It's tempting to think Bigfoot couldn't survive 15 seconds in our Internet-savvy society, where any claim, big or small, can be debunked with two thumbs and access to an iPhone.

Yet while our technological advances could make feathers out of Bigfoot, and despite the people who've stepped forward to admit that it was all a hoax, a fake, a sham, a fraud, an elaborate put-on! - the big furry one endures.

In fact, in our ironic times, when it is so satisfyingly easy to squash an urban legend within seconds, perhaps it's more fun to act as the conspiracy theorist. The one who believes.

Maybe for this reason, today Bigfoot not only lives, he walks tall.

Read This!

...which give me an excuse to post a link to one of my all-time favorite threads from the old board.

And to say "Baboon Extra Head" just for old-time's sake.

Icon401 Bigfoot: Why do we believe in you?

Bigfoot really is an American tall-tale. Up there with the Loch Ness monster and other such mystic creatures we can never seem to find, he eludes us and yet we always choose to believe in him, just a little bit. Bigfoot embodies American ideals: Western ruggedness, the great outdoors, old-fashioned masculinity and perhaps a strange backwoods idea of what it is like to be larger than life.

Ah, it was Jon-Erik Beckjord that died, not the Mario guy. I was confused.

There are fairly good reasons not to believe in hoop-snakes or jackalopes. But the bigfoot, in his overpowering shyness, begins to resemble the "hidebehind," one of the great American myths. Of course we never see him: he's always right behind us.

Bigfoot's discovery will be confirmed with the growing popularity of 360 degree photography.

Right after we ban that silly top-view photography. Or until humans become transparent.

Hello Kitty

I want Bigfoot to exist, but I accept that he very probably doesn't.*

*Yes, I am allowing myself a tiny little amount of hope. Shhh! Don't squish it for me!
