Blow Your Top A YouTube playlist like no other: U.S. nuke tests amid the Cold War
Greg Spriggs, 65, a weapons physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, is hoping to preserve, analyze and publicly share as many as 10,000 deteriorating films known to have been taken of the atmospheric blasts, which irradiated everything from sea life to soldiers while perpetuating post-World War II fears of world annihilation.

Thanks for the link Brian.

There's a film out there called "The Atomic Café" that compiles footage from '50s and '60s government films, many of which I remember watching as a student. They all went out of their way to assure us that life after a nuclear attack was gonna be pretty back to normal. After of course, the fire department hosed all of the irradiated ash and debris down the storm sewers.
