Icon18 Honest Trailer - Labyrinth

Quote:
Since we had to say goodbye to David Bowie so soon, we decided to honor him by reviewing that one weird kid's movie he was in that was way worse than we remember.

I saw Labyrinth at the movie theatre this summer. I have it on DVD, but wanted to see it on the big screen again.

There were lots of kids there, but also lots of 20-somethings. During the scene where the baby disappears and the owl comes, the little girl behind me said very loudly "I'm scared. I want to go NOW". I've never really looked at it as a kid's movie.

Jennifer Connelly really isn't very good in it. And her character is so whiny (I suppose that's the point). Even whinier than "But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!"

Still got swoony over " I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave."

DD showed me the honest trailer, I loved it. "David Bowie and his, um, Major Tom" was funny, but my favorite part was ". . . and sexual confusion about an older authority figure. . . so, puberty!"

I remember one description of the movie being "David Bowie in pants so tight you could tell his religion."

I love Labyrinth!

A quote from this movie is what got me through my worst days at the Empire.

I will never be able to look at Bernie Sanders now without thinking of Hoggle. I showed Labyrinth to my cousins when they were young (almost 20 yrs ago) and they instantly fell in love with it. They still bring it up about the time we watched that movie.

Anent "Labyrinth", I always thought it was a rip-off of Sendak's "Outside Over There."

The Dark Crystal also has some scenes that will probably freak out younger children.

Blow Your Top

I like the Labyrinth, but yea, Jennifer Connoly is utterly awful in it. I know she's a capable actress as an adult, so either she wasn't experienced enough yet or the director wasn't that good with humans and David Bowie was pretty much just playing himself.

God I love that movie though. David Bowie, David Bowie, David Bowie.

... and his little Bowie too.

David Bowie grumbling to Alan Rickman,
"Four decades of groundbreaking music, yet they keep looking at my dick."
