Goldfish Store security scanners kill fish?

Comment: I've gone to Walmart two times in the past month to purchase Koi.
On both occasions I had multiple employees remind me to hold the fish
above the scanners that they have at the exit. They told me that if the
fish go through those scanners they will die. I had never heard of this
but I was certainly unwilling to test it out on my newly purchased
fishies. Is this true?

If it can kill a fish with one pass, what the NFBSK is it doing to the customers and employees who walk through it many time?

Technically speaking, every animal that passes through the scanners will die. It's just a matter of time.

And given that it's WalMart, I expect that it won't be much time.

I have zero faith that the fish sold in that store are healthy and disease free.

I remember hearing the same story regarding goldfish here on the forums. Link. And it involved Wall-Mart to boot.

Snopes even quoted:
ANSWER: Hotline contacted Wal-Mart’s corporate office, and media representative Anna Taylor said there have been no “documented instances” of fish being damaged by the security scanners.
