Managed to sign up for a healthcare plan. Fingers crossed that the paperwork all comes in so I can waive the more expensive insurance my school provides.

I just went to put the bins out but one of my housemates has apparently done it already. On the correct night! Without needing to be reminded! He also emptied the kitchen bin and replaced the bin liner!!!!!

I genuinely can't remember any other time this has happened in the last 5 or 6 years. I'm pretty sure that a housemate has put the bin out once or twice in that time (usually after I'd reminded them, or after checking with me it was the right night) and they've emptied the kitchen bin on occasion but I'm honestly not sure that any housemate has done both at the same time since the 00s.

Oh man, this new housemate is a keeper.

I've recently discovered a show that's on late night TV on one of our local channels, anyway it's several hours worth of old game shows from the '50s and includes old commercials as well. It's fun watching shows I've heard of all my life but never seen (like I've Got a Secret and To Tell the Truth) along with celebrities who seem to be most well known for having been on these shows (like Polly Bergen and Dorothy Kilgallon as just two examples).

And the old commercials - what a hoot .

CaperCon was this weekend and I cosplayed Kaori Miyazono from 'Your Lie in April' yesterday and Erza Scarlet from 'Fairy Tail' today. Both were incredibly well received. I've lost track of how many people wanted pics today!

Thing that makes me (and DW) happy:
Just got the offer from Human Resource for the job (Floor Care/Projects housekeeper in a hospital, 3rd Shift, contingent). Orientation and all that stuff starts in 2 weeks, need to do health assessment and drug test before then.
By horray me, finally a job again. Also it is a job I've done before at a different hospital and really liked.

Congratulations, Rob!

And also congratulations to the hospital. Work gets done best when done by someone who likes that particular work.

A company announced the next version of their hardware, and to advertise the best possible performance they published scores running with my software. They didn't mention any other software, even their own software that another division of their own company produces. Their hardware division approached us to get the best results out of their upcoming hardware, and I spent a few months improving speeds for it. We were hoping for a press release about our performance, but the way it worked out was better than expected.

And this announcement comes one day before we have a sales meeting with one of the largest companies in Europe. They're planning to widely deploy this new hardware in their new products, and are evaluating our software. Timing couldn't be better. And this is in a key industry for us with a lot of other big players who tend to make decisions on similar criteria. My few months of work could help position us to make a string of multi-million dollar deals.

That is incredibly impressive, Errata. Other companies going out and picking you as the benchmark is...huge.

Kiket, well done.

I'd been wondering if the hummingbirds had found the feeder I got for them. Kept seeing them fly over to the regular one, looking so hopeful, only to be disappointed, so I finally decided to get one for them. But I was wondering if they were visiting. Now I know.

LTTMMH: That magic moment when a homemade spaghetti sauce turns from watery pinkish liquid to thick deep red goodness.

Feeling generally positive and unburdened right now. Will it stand up to n hours of homework catch-up and then 6 hours of class? We'll see

I mentioned recently that a stray cat got trapped in my room and tore huge holes in the curtain when it was throwing itself at the window trying to escape. I could have easily reported the damage to my landlord and got her to source a replacement curtain but all the curtains in the house were handmade by her mother (the original owner of the property) who passed away recently so I thought I'd just quietly replace it on my own ...

The curtain was at least 20 years old and perhaps even older so my plan was to find something with a similar pattern in a price range I could afford. It turned out that the fabric store I visited not only had 40% discounts on their curtain fabrics but they just so happened to have the exact same pattern in stock!
