I'd be very surprised to see a newt or salamander caught in a web on a dry porch. I would think a gecko is much more likely. Maybe they're rarer up there though.

The Wendy's store on US 17 in Orange Park is closed to remodel, per the sign.

Remodel? The entire building is gone, all the way to the dirt.

Obviously it's a very thorough remodel.

I drove past a house where there was a sign that said "Free moving boxes."

I'm pretty sure it was a hoax, though. All the boxes I saw were sitting still.

Probably that's just because the cats inside them were napping at the time.

Checking the site today, so thorough that it appears every bit of the asphalt pavement around the building is also gone (well, might have been in some heavy duty dump trucks on the site about noon.).

Whoever does CNN's close captions really needs to do some serious proofreading. Saw this caption on Thursday:....there are people who have been cooked up in their houses for days....
Yeah, they might spoil without refrigeration.

OK, now I have an idea for a story about a haunted teletype machine. (Too bad it's almost certainly been done...)

Could be worse.

Some years ago, one of the local papers ran a story in which they reported that a batch of high school students had done a pubic demonstration.

(I've forgotten what it was that they were actually publicly demonstrating . . . )

Went down to St Augustine for a presentation at Flagler College on The Vietnam War, a film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick.

The way I go takes me on a short segment of I-95 between exits 323 and 318.

While southbound on that short segment, I was passed by a television satellite truck which appears to be from one of the Chattanooga television stations. Right behind was a small vehicle, I believe from the same TV station.

Guess they are heading south to check out Irma.

I pulled a dollar bill out of my wallet to buy a snack from the vending machine at work, and noticed someone had written "From West Africa" on it. I have no way of knowing why someone wrote that on a dollar bill, but I like to think that someone got it as change somewhere in Africa and brought it back to the US. I've never been to that part of Africa, but my experience in East Africa was that many places that cater to tourists will accept US dollars, so it's plausible that places on the other side of the continent do the same. In fact I got an American two dollar bill as change over there, which I posted about in this thread at the time.

This wasn't today, but a few weeks ago. But anyways, I had just picked up my mom from work and was driving home. The end of town she works on is kind of known to be a little different and strange things happen there. It is kind of a different world. Anyways, we were driving down one of the main drags, there was a guy in a wheelchair and the guy was dressed up as the tin man from The Wizard of Oz. I guess the guy is kind of known to dress up.

Saw a bunch of flamingos walking down a hallway on a local news station doing hurricane Irma coverage. I know I will never see anything like that again!

ETA: WildaBeast, there is a site called Where's George? that enables you to input a bill's serial number to see where it has been.

I took River to the groomers today to get her butt shaved because she's once again getting her business stuck in her hair.

Saw a car in the parking lot with a vanity plate that said "Kat Toy."

There's a large group of people walking around my neighborhood singing hymns. They briefly stopped in front of my house, sang a verse, and then moved on. I don't know if they picked my house to stop at for any particular reason or if they just happened to pause in that spot to let stragglers catch up or something.

Driving to work yesterday on I94 just east of the Mn/Wi border. Spotted a car trailer with 3 newer cars on it. As I approached it from the rear, there were "thingies" dangling from the bottoms of the cars. As I passed them, the stains on the sides of the cars were obvious. On all three, the stains went up to the tops of the doors. As I passed the pickup, Texas plates.

You might think bad things about this situation, but working with SCCA as a corner worker, being a long time car racing fan, and knowing a lot of gear heads, it turns out that if you're going to build a new race car, a newer flood damaged vehicle is actually an inexpensive way to get a newer shell to base you new race car on. You're going to strip it down to the skeleton anyway, and remove all of the factory wiring. You'll replace the mechanicals with racing components.

The 3 vehicles were 2 Camaros, and 1 Challenger. The NHRA sticker on the back window of the dually pulling the trailer was the final give-away.

Yesterday afternoon I got behind a big shiny truck that (I think) was one of those that hauls race cars or vintage cars. I got to see myself driving, and do a quick check on the running lights to boot. Man was that truck shiny!
