Default Did a Theater Accidentally Show ‘Nymphomaniac’ During a ‘Frozen’ Screening?

Quote:
There’s a journalism adage that states, “Everyone reads the false report and no one reads the correction.” That’s true enough with newspapers but it’s an even bigger deal in the Internet age, where not only does news circulate faster, but that widespread original story is likely to show up in searches long after the report was disproved or corrected. That appears to be the case with the story of how the sexually explicit “red band” trailer for Nymphomaniac was accidentally shown at a theater filled with moviegoers there to see Disney’s animated Frozen.

Tracking the story is a fascinating exercise in how an urban legend is formed.

And there's another one, known as "Betteridge's law of headlines."

Is that the "Any headline phrased as a question can be answered with 'No'" one?

That's a better guess.

I'd have expected more fear-mongering about Einstein though with something about the atomic bomb.

Yep. The annus mirabilis papers were published in 1905.

I call bullNFBSK on the 1905 one. Everyone knows these things are discovered by a mom(who supposedly lives in your area).

Now, I've seen this thread pop up on Recent topics so many times, I'm starting to believe it. I'm pretty sure in a few years, I'll go "They showed the trailer for a porn movie iduring a kid's movie. I remember reading about it on snoops"

That's something I remember learning about in an Intro to Psychology elective I took in college (which therefore makes me an expert on the subject!) -- people tend to forget negative words in things they read. The example given in the textbook was that people often complain that corrections in newspapers are buried where no one sees them, but you don't really want a big front page correction, either. If a paper mistakenly identifies Mad Jay as a serial killer or something, and then the next day prints a big headline on the front page -- "Mad Jay is Not a Serial Killer", soon people will be going "I remember seeing something in the paper about Mad Jay being a serial killer!"

We would like to make the following correction to a previous post by Dasla. The correct statement was "Mad Jay eats cereal?"not "Mad Jay is a serial killer?". We apologize for any damage caused by this error.

There's another documented instance of something similar happening:

Evie and Aaron, the hosts of Awesomed By Comics Podcast related a completely accidental, but totally hilarious, example that occurred when they attended a matinee showing of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tenth Anniversary Movie. In a grievous error, the movie theater accidentally ran the film that apparently had been shown the previous night on that particular multiplex screen — the very R-rated Drive Angry, whose opening minutes are particularly front-loaded with violence and profanity. Apart from Evie and Aaron, the audience consisted entirely of children and parents. Hilarity Ensued.

I forget what episode of ABCP it was, but the story was quite amusing.
