Canada Woman shot by oven while trying to cook waffles

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013...ffles#comments

Quote:
Aalaya Walker was visiting a friend in St. Petersburg Monday when they decided they wanted some late-night waffles, The Tampa Bay Times reported. So Walker began preheating the oven unaware that her friend, JJ Sandy, 25, was storing a magazine from his .45-caliber Glock 21 in the oven.
My 'favourite' line of the article:
Quote:
Sandy wasn't charged because he had a proper concealed weapons permit, The Tampa Tribune reported.
*facepalm*

I don't want to turn this into a gun control thread (this board has largely, mercifully, been pretty free of that) - but is it asking too much to at least get some basic, simple laws on the books so idiots like this could get charged with something?

I don't mean much - just a simple fine, and maybe a mandatory gun safety class.

Had to laugh at one of the comments... Too bad there wasn't a good oven with a gun around to stop this bad oven with a gun before it hurt this young woman.

See, this is the inevitable result of laws that would require storing your guns in an unloaded state.. If the bullets had been stored in the gun (one in the chamber to be extra efficient!) this tragedy could have been avoided.

I've never heard of cooking waffles in an oven before.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. I figure frozen pre-made.

In an article we got up here, it was said to be a toaster oven. I can't find the article, though.
