House of Cards (US), the Netflix original series. Very entertaining so far.

I've decided to give Animal Planet's Ice Cold Gold a shot.

Quite frankly, I have no idea why it was put on Animal Planet instead of the Discovery Channel, it's got nothing to do with animals or working with animals. The only reason that comes to mind is that Discovery's already crawling with similar shows so the network execs decided to fob it off to a different channel.

Even with that, it seems alright. The people who are being filmed are professionals who've actually got mining experience and appear to know what they're doing, unlike the Gold Rush crew that just said "hey, we're broke and out of work, let's pool our life savings to buy a bunch of equipment we don't really know how to run and try mining some gold up in Alaska, even though we don't really know how to mine."

I finally steeled myself to watch Hannibal. Normally I wouldn't even give this show the time of day except that I really like the showrunner Bryan Fuller's work. Fuller's shows have always been strong on visuals and this is no exception. This is good and bad considering the subject matter. It's easily the goriest show I've ever seen on network TV. If anyone is looking for extra motivation to stay on a diet, this might be the show for you. After the stomach-churning Motel Hell body horror of episode 2, I now have a slight gag reflex when I see portobellos. Of course, I could also see some people turning instead to complete junk food because at least Hannibal would never use Cinnamon Toast Crunch in his cuisine.

The cast is good although Mads Mikkelsen projects an almost palpable creepiness that makes me wonder why everybody isn't running from him in fear. He's even more frightening when he's trying to appear nice. Former Wonderfalls star Caroline Dhavernas got a part as psychiatrist Dr. Alana Bloom. For a moment I almost thought the deer would start talking and apparently this is not so far-fetched. The 2nd episode had as one of the potential victims a character from Wonderfalls so Hannibal exists in the same Fuller universe as Wonderfalls. Somewhere out there Alana has a body double who is slacking off in her trailer while animals talk to her. I went back and re-watched some of Wonderfalls and now I feel awful for wishing anything bad on the semi-annoying chatterbox.

To anyone looking for a guide to Hannibal (catching up on what you've missed so far, getting a new and entertaining perspective on what you've already watched, wanting some idea of what you're getting into so you know when to cover your eyes during the episode), Cleolinda is doing some excellent recaps. I can't bring myself to try the show proper yet, but I look forward to her post every week.

Just watched the Discovery Channel's Big Brain Theory pilot episode.

Standard competitive reality show: bunch of people get stuck into teams and have to work together to build some contraption within a time limit. Wasn't terribly impressed by either the setup or the competitors, probably wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't on right after the season premiere of Mythbusters. Almost certainly won't be bothering to watch the second episode.

I'ge gotten hooked on Arrow. Amell does an excellent job playing the Oliver of now differently than on the island or before the island.

So The Americans turned out to be an awesome show. The first season just wrapped up, but I recommend checking it out on Hulu+ if you have it, or buying/renting the dvd set.

I saw Inside Amy Schumer, and it was umm just average. Based on her stand up routine that airs on Comedy Central, I was expecting better from her.

I have yet to watch that show, but my daughter has run into the crew filming scenes in Baltimore twice in that last week.

I have the whole thing stored up on DVR. I was debating whether I would give it a try. But considering you are an Arrested Development fan, I trust you opinion enough to give it a go.

Count me as one who has really enjoyed The Americans. I haven't finished the first season yet, I have 1 or 2 episodes left.

Finally got around to watching Orphan Black. Watched 5 episodes in a row and still craved more. Tatiana Maslany, the lead, is fantastic. I forgot a few times that is was the same person playing the different parts. And like that it's set in Toronto (not Toronto pretending to be generic American city).

Happy to see it's been picked up for a second season.

I just watched the pilot of Defiance last night, and are there ever so many cliches.

I really want to like it, but the writing so far is really bad. I think they added way to many unnecessary elements and there is so much that doesn't make sense or is just wrong. As an example, why would you terraform a planet to make the terrain more rugged?

Maybe if it fails, they'll renew Warehouse 13.

It wasn't deliberate. The aliens were attempting to terraform Earth and the humans stopped it when it was partway through.

The second episode is better

I can't get over the arch yet though. How come it looks disconnected in the promos but not in the episodes?. There's no in universe explanation. It's like they went "oops" half way through production and reworked the CGI but didn't have time to rework the promos.
