Blockbuster is an X-Men villain. He won't be in this film.

Seriously, though, this looks good.

Blow Your Top

Speaking of blockbusters, 2019 is gonna be a hell of a year. For superheroes alone, we've got Dark Phoenix in February, Captain Marvel in March, Shazam! in April, Avengers 4 (not yet titled) in May, Spider-Man: Far From Home in July, The New Mutants in August, The Joker in October, Wonder Woman 1984 in November. On top of that, Disney has (I'm kind of boggling at this) Dumbo in March, Aladdin in May, The Lion King in July, Jungle Cruise in October, and Frozen 2 in November. Plus, Toy Story 4 in June, a Men in Black spinoff film also in June, Godzilla: King of the Monsters in May, a new Bond movie in November, and a crapload of other stuff. Maybe the Academy should bring back that Popular Film category after all...

Ouch - that entire list of what's coming out in 2019 and no mention of Star Wars Episode IX except for "other stuff".

Yeah, I realized I'd left that out after I went out for lunch. Sorry about that.

Default The skrulls are here!

and are already writing bad reviews!

Why female superheroes shouldn’t hit old ladies
Quote:
The trailer for Captain Marvel has landed. I always find it hard to tell someone’s superpower from a trailer – it all moves so fast – but I know she can breathe fire out of her eyes, and I can see quite plainly that she is female, the first of her kind, unless you count Wonder Woman, or Lara Croft, which for reasons relating to comic franchises, we do not. Apart from the eyes, some obligatory superhero amnesia and a bit of kinetic energy, the main thing we see is the Captain punching an old lady.
Amazing journalism!!

ETA: "Breathe" fire from her eyes? really? not "shoot lasers from her eyes" not "fire energy beams from her eyes" ?

Obligatory superhero amnesia? Other than Hancock, have any recent superhero movies had superhero amnesia?

Also, is he suggesting that Lara Croft is a superhero? Or is he saying female action movie character? Because Lara Croft is clearly a Badass Normal (link NSFP).

I think his point was that Lara Croft is a female actiony hero, so clearly we don't need another one. Or something.

The new female Captain Marvel does just that in a film trailer – Superman would never be allowed to stoop so low.
Guess she never watched Superman III or read or played Injustice: Gods Among Us or read Justice League: Trinity War or read any of the Crisis comics.

ETA: Can't believe I forgot about Superdickery.

Of course, it was also rather obvious in the trailer that the "old lady" was a disguised alien or supervillain or something similar.

The author is a her...

And that's why most people are saying she must be a skrull...
Even though she admits Captain Marvel may have a valid reason to have done it...

but a journalist who can't be bothered to do a minimal amount of research before putting out an opinion piece like that...

Captain Marvel is the first?
She's the first *Marvel* hero to headline her own movie...
She's not the first female hero, or superhero
The author may claim that the Marvel vs DC seems insignificant to her but given the amounts of money involved, and the history between those companies it is not a little thing you can shrug off.

This is not even the first Marvel female superhero movie, unless one wants to quibble about Elektra not being a "hero". In her eponymous movie, she was protecting a man and his daughter from assassins (she was also an assassin).
It is definitely the first MCU movie headlined by a female character.

There are other shots in the trailer that make it fairly clear that the Skrulls appear (which makes sense; Kree-Skrull war and all), so presumably that's the explanation for punching the old lady. (For non-comic-buffs, the Skrulls are shape-shifters.)

And the original Captain Marvel was a Kree warrior who was exiled to Earth and went native.

Also, Skrulls haven't previously appeared in the MCU because they're traditionally an enemy of the Fantastic Four and were tied up in those movie rights.

I also have to give Disney/Marvel's marketing team a lot of credit. It's obvious they knew that fanboys/fangirls would love the Skrull reference in that scene whereas most people, who only the these characters from the MCU movies, would be shocked and or surprised by it.
