Default A woman's tongue was inseminated by a squid after eating undercooked seafood

The moral of the story is pretty clear: don't eat raw squid sex organs.

I was going to comment about their use of the word inseminated, but it looks like it was accurate. I mentally substituted impregnated every time I read the headline.

Now for the important question... How do you count a squid's arms for the purpose of determining which one is its fourth?

I don't want to make any mistakes...

This whole process is actually autonomous, meaning that the squid's sex organ is prone to firing off without any conscious decision by the squid, according to a study in the journal Zoomorphology.
Just another strange fact about squid! Thank God my sex organ only fires off when I tell it to.

And don't forget that they have an arm specifically to grasp that organ...
That's why it's important to know how to count them.

If a squid approaches you with its 3rd arm, or its 5th, you're safe, but if its the 4th? you better swim for it!

So, it had nothing to do with her tongue, and this article from earlier this month is based on news from 6 and 7 years ago. And similar reports on the same journal articles have led to UL exaggerations. I can only conclude it's click bait.

Yow!

By the way, I remember seeing an octopus on display at an aquarium some years ago (in Seattle, as I recall). The sign said the animals are swapped out with wild ones on a regular basis, but you could tell if the octopus currently in the tank was male or female by looking at its third right arm: the male has a hectocotylus, which is a special adaptation used in mating - much like the squid discussed here. I was surprised to see that this particular octopus had a hectocotylus quite reminiscent of a human penis, and wondered why I never noticed these on octopuses before.
