A world where it's okay to dehumanize pregnant teens, apparently.

And where those pregnant teens, despite lacking the resources to get an abortion in their own country, would somehow magically have the resources to come to to the US to get one.

Well, obviously she's confused.

Most of the people who are in a position to go to another country to get a medical procedure are People Who Have Money.

People Who Have Money are not Those People who we don't want coming here.

[just in case anybody was in any doubt: /end sarcasm.]

They're also throwing in that they'll come here for "free" abortions. The government did not pay for this one. I'm not sure if it was paid for by Jane Doe herself or by donors or a private organization, but it wasn't the government. (In fact, I'm sure it would have been cheaper for the government if they HAD paid for her abortion, as compared to the resources they expended trying to stop it..)

Trump administration asks Supreme Court to punish ACLU lawyers who helped teen migrant get abortion

Quote:
n a highly unusual move, the Justice Department asked the Supreme Court on Friday to discipline lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union because they helped a 17-year old migrant obtain an abortion two weeks ago.
Apparently, the claim is that at the hearing on October 24 when the full appellate court overruled the decision of the 3-judge panel, attorneys for Jane Doe said that the operation would take place on the 26th, which would have given the government a chance to file a further appeal with the Supreme Court. However, the procedure actually happened early on the 25th.

The reason for this, according to the ACLU, is that Texas law requires that patients have a consultation at least 24 hours in advance with the surgeon who will perform the procedure. Jane Doe had had a consultation with a surgeon prior to the hearing before the 3-judge panel, but it was believed that surgeon was no longer available, so she would need to have a consultation with a different surgeon on the 25th, clearing the way for the procedure on the 26th. However, it turned out the original surgeon was available, so the procedure was performed immediately.

Whether there was any deliberate deception on the part of her attorneys, I don't know. My guess is that they were probably being honest at the time, but that once they found out the original surgeon was available, they moved as quickly as possible -- which, in my view, is proper, as it was in the best interest of their client. (They say they "assumed" it would take an extra day, but they made no promises or commitments.)

Fortunately, Ms. Doe is through with that part of her ordeal, but it seems to me a strong indication that the administration is going to keep pushing back on this.
