Default Volcanic smoke rings

Comment: This picture was forwarded to me with the caption "Rare volcanic
smoke ring". No other information was provided. Hoax? Thank you for checking.

I have a hard time believing a white smoke ring being produced from gray ash clouds. Plus to send it that high even if it came from another location around the area.

I think the inset's a different photo rather than an enlargement or enhancement - the ring seems to be a slightly different shape, it's higher relative to the horizontal cloud in the background and the foreground ash cloud looks a bit different too. Or at least, the inset doesn't seem to be taken directly from the main photo.

I saw this a few days ago. Iceland's volcano. Apparently, Mt. Etna is known for it too.

Yeah, Etna has produced many "smoke" rings in her time (IIRC from Etna, they're usually steam) and Eyjafjallajoekull produced a couple too. I agree with Richard though, that the inset isn't the same ring as the main photo. The ring in the main photo looks a bit off to me as well.
