Default Teen died surfing Irma's surge?

I've seen a couple "news" sites telling the story of a teenage pro surfer who died a few days ago in the Caribbean. Supposedly he and a group of other surfers were riding the storm surge waves from Hurricane Irma when he crashed into a reef. However, I haven't seen that on any site I would call reliable -- has anyone else seen this story?

I read an article today that detailed death tolls and damage for the places hit by the storm. It did not give details on how every death occurred for the Caribbean countries, but it seems like the sort of thing that would have warranted mention in an article like that.

This is the article I read: https://www.google.com/amp/abcnews.g...%3fid=49765357

ETA: Nevermind. Looks true. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.smh...07-gyd720.html

Default Heavy Surf Claims the Life of Bajan Pro in Barbados

http://www.wsbtv.com/news/trending-n...aves/605980242
Quote:
We are shocked and saddened to report that Zander Venezia, a budding young pro surfer from Bridgetown, Barbados, died today after surfing a particularly heavy session at a notoriously nasty wave on Barbados' east coast. While the family waits for an official autopsy, it is believed that Zander possibly broke his neck upon hitting the shallow reef.
Sadly, this is not such an unusual story. Hurricane swells claim the lives of surfers practically every year.

Koshka, was there some detail that you found dubious? I'm not sure what's driving the skepticism.
