Cell Phone Calls from secret phone numbers cause 'brain ham range'

Comment: Hi All ,
Its very important news for all of you. Do not pick up calls from the
Under given numbers. 9888308001, +91 9316048121,
9876266211, 9888854137, 9876715587 ,These numbers will come in red color,
if the call comes up from these
numbers. Its with very high wave length, and frequency. If a call is
received on mobile from these numbers, it creates a very high frequency
and it causes brain ham range.
It's not a joke rather, its TRUE. 27 persons died just on receiving calls
from these numbers. Watch Aaj Tak (NEWS), DD News and IBN 7.
Forward this message to all u'r friends and colleagues, and relative

IS IT TRUE?????????

Brain ham range (I originally misread it as brain ham rage) is classic.

What mobile exactly is the one that somehow knows to show these high frequency callers in red? Interesting they'd actually program the phones that way, for something most of us have never heard of.

Just figure out which one you like best. Or, alternatively, which ones you think would do best with a brain ham.

As I started to google it, I realized this was a misspelling of hemorrhage. How that finally occurred to me, I don't know, because I'm trying to imagine what accent one would need to have in order to pronounce "hemorrhage" as "ham range."

Uh... I think it's kind of obvious that it's not a native speaker.

The legend originated in Pakistan in 2007:

Kuwait Times:

Quote:
Rumours about this "killer virus" began in Pakistan, where they reached such a fever pitch that some mosques in Karachi announced that people were being killed by this virus and the faithful should be aware of the wrath of God. Mobile operators had to release a joint statement rubbishing such hearsay. The rumours then spread to neighbouring India and Afghanistan, even as far as Bangladesh, causing panic and confusion.
cellular-news.com:

Quote:
The cellular operators moved to calm down subscribers and said in a joint statement "These rumors are completely baseless. They do not make any sense in technological terms." Farah Hussain, a spokeswoman for Warid Telecom, told Reuters that their customer service centers had been inundated with panicky subscribers inquiring about the so-called virus.

However, the "virus" seems to have jumped borders and the rumour is now spreading through Afghanistan, and government authorities are blaming local Taliban for spreading the scare story.
Pakistan Daily Times:

Quote:
In Karachi, these rumors have taken on a whole new twist, as many now believe that besides death, this mysterious call can also result in impotency in men who receive the call, while the women end up becoming pregnant.

According to the rumors, the cause of this supernatural call is that some mobile phone company set up a tower at a graveyard, which enraged the spirits, causing them to wreak havoc among mobile phone users.

...

Random SMS messages have been making the rounds. “These messages are probably the handiwork of bored young people, who are doing it for the kicks,” said a graphics designer.

Translation issue, perhaps?

Is rubbishing really all that different than "trashing"?

This is completely rubbished since wave length is inversely proportional to frequency.
