Up: it is above freezing. The first time since a few days before Christmas. It is supposed to be in the 40s or 50s (f) later in the week. The snow is melting!

Down: it is a wet, and muddy (in some areas there wasn’t much snow)mess. If it gets below freezing, there are going to be several icy areas.

Up: I don’t freeze body parts off when I am outside for more than a few minutes.

Down: get wet/ muddy shoes and worry about slipping on ice when I take the dogs out.

Down: Last night I heard that a friend of mine has been diagnosed with a "rare and aggressive" form of breast cancer, which is already at stage 3 (or possibly 4; they're still checking). She starts chemo this week.

In October, an email circulated at work about a co-worker just about everyone liked, who had passed away suddenly. Today I found out that this information was incorrect (apparently just about everyone knew this but me), that he was seriously ill and on life support, but not actually dead. He's not exactly in top health now, but he's vastly improved and being released from a rehab hospital next week.

Hello Kitty

DOWN: seeing sweet kitties for adoption at the local PetSmart.

UP: knowing that they will all find homes soon; Last Chance Animal Rescue is very good at what they do.

Up: An essay I wrote was accepted by a website I love, and I'm thrilled to contribute to it.

Down: I got the email telling me this a little after midnight, and now I'm too excited to go back to sleep.

Down: My nephew lost his dog.

Up: My BFF's father said he was hungry (some background; he can't feed himself anymore, and he hasn't been talking. They feed him until he stops eating, so him saying he was hungry was not an indication of neglect).

Up: I finally have a day off.

Down: This comes after putting in a 60 hour work week because one coworker had the flu and another had to take her adult daughter to court (again).

down: Yesterday really drained the emotional energy from me and I can feel myself starting to get depressed again. I'm trying to keep busy.

Up: It's been raining on and off, but is warm enough to ahve the window open while I'm exercising, and the sweet smell of the fresh air is making me feel much better. Unfortunately it also makes me feel like it's about mid-March and time to get ready for spring and flowers but I'll take what I can get

D'oh!

DOWN: I left my phone on this dresser this morning so I had to go back in the house to get it.
UP: At least I wasn't halfway to work before I remembered where I'd left my phone!

DOWN: I think I've got a touch of the flu.
UP: So far it's just chills, so maybe this year's shot is providing some resistance.

I think I might have also had a mild flu, despite/thanks to the shot. I had fever, chills, and aches in addition to head cold symptoms, but I was never bedridden, the worst was over in 3 days, and it was all over in a week. If I'm right about it being the flu, I'm really glad I got the shot!

UP: I love sleeping really really late on my days off because I have to get up so early on workdays; I am not a morning person. If I'm not asleep then I'm looking up stuff on my phone.
DOWN: I'm not getting anything around the house done, and lord knows there's plenty to be done.

Down: Got notice to renew Driver's Licence and a few days later got notice to renew Health Card.

Up: Discovered I can renew both on-line because none of my information has changed.

Down: Now I'm stuck with the same crappy (angry-looking) picture for the next 5 years.

DOWN: none of the checkout lines at the Target were staffed last evening, thus forcing me to use the self-serve lines. My temper does not play well with those, plus there is a potential violation of my personal don't-swear-in-public policy.

UP: I mentioned all this to the staff that was on hand, and they were glad to help me. No scanners were kicked in by my size 10 hiking boots last evening.

UP: I wasn't fooled by the obvious phishing scam email that said "Merry Christmas! Click here to redeem your $100 [cinema chain] voucher!" that I got sent last week. "Merry Christmas" indeed, did you think I was born yesterday?

DOWN: It wasn't a scam email, a friend just called to check whether I'd received the late Christmas party they'd sent me.

UP: Even though I deleted the email a week ago I was still able to recover it.

It's a very cunningly folded pop-up e-card...

First you print it, then when you unfold it. it's a whole party.

I'd be wary of the snacks... they might be a bit off since they've been folded in the card's electrons since Christmas.

Up: I got a contractor to fix their bill, which had been about 3 times what they quoted me, so my project is not over budget anymore.

Down: I spent about 3 hours doing so between the various emails, calls, etc, so now I am three hours over budget on my project.

Blow Your Top

Down: I recently got something from a local hospital; presumably a pitch for money. Into recycling it goes!

Up: I opened the letter just to make sure and found a check for a substantial sum of money! Apparently I'd overpaid them at some point. [I have gotten treatment for various things at this hospital before]

I don't believe I came so close to tearing a check in half! Whew!
