I've had my magnetic card key deactivate on occasion. The front desk person told me it was because I had it in the same pocket as my cell phone. I looked in the pocket where I had been carrying the key and realized the flashlight also in that pocket had a magnet on it. Problem solved.

I just was outside listening to an owl to the left of my house hooting at an owl on the right of my house. They were quite loud, for quite a while, and I am not sure if they were fighting over territory, trying to hook up, or just chatting about the weather and good places to find mice around here.

Maybe they were just chatting, conspiring on the best way to NFBSK with the guy living in the house in the middle?

Hmm, like my dad always said, you can never trust a pair of owls. I have been wondering for about 40 year why he used to say that, and maybe now I finally know.

Stanley Donen passed away.

I never knew his name, but the pictures he directed rank among some of my favourites. I'm glad for his work, and even though I just learned of his genius, I mourn his passing.

It's owl nesting season, so they were quite possibly a mating pair.

It is? Cool, thank you Cervus. I thought it was too early for them, since it is still pretty cold up here.

Owls mate and nest in the winter months. Their thick feathers and the fact that they hunt at night gives them an advantage over other birds in winter.

If a pair of owls go hawking, the first one does the squawking. I think that's what we learned. I just never understood what it has to do with phonics.

I have a phone interview today -- just a prelim, but it's the first bite I've gotten on my resume, and my first experience interviewing outside of the internal jobs I applied for before my job ended. Vibes etc. are welcome.

I have some concerns about the nature of the position, and it's 35 miles away, but a lot of it is right up my alley -- which is unusual -- and it's a good employer.

There are some good interviews with him in various mini-documentaries on people like Gene Kelly and movies like Singin' In the Rain.

In an abrupt change of tone: one of my brothers passed today. He had been sick for some time, diabetes and its complications, and he would not eat right, or stop drinking, or stop smoking. He would have been 64 next month.
