TV Google Starts Blocking YouTube on Amazonís Fire TV, Echo Show

The conflict between Amazon and Google is escalating: Google once again started to block access to YouTube on Amazonís Echo Show device Tuesday, and is notifying users of Amazonís Fire TV that they wonít be able to access YouTube anymore starting January 1st.

In an unusually frank statement, a Google spokesperson squarely blamed Amazonís unwillingness to strike a business deal with Google for the step.

It isn't about growing up; It is about money, which always trumps perceived age. "Unwillingness to strike a business deal" is business speak for "didn't offer enough money and/or is asking too much money".

This is basically the net version of the yearly pissing match between local broadcast stations and cable carriers. The broadcasters want to get paid when the cable company uses their content. the cable companies don't want to pay for something that is "free" (when received over the air).

People that think net neutrality really isn't an issue, for lack of examples of ISP throttling competitor sources, really haven't been paying attention.

It is the same reasoning behind SCOTUS dumping the preclearance requirement for voting changes in Shelby County v. Holder. "No one has violated the law, so the law must be unnecessary."
