Default The Citadel - A Community of Liberty

III Citadel

Quote:

The Citadel is evolving as a planned community where residents are bound together by:

Patriotism
Pride in American Exceptionalism
Our proud history of Liberty as defined by our Founding Fathers, and
Physical preparedness to survive and prevail in the face of natural catastrophes — such as Hurricanes Sandy or Katrina — or man-made catastrophes such as a power grid failure or economic collapse.

DESCRIPTION: The Citadel Community will house between 3,500 and 7,000 patriotic American families who agree that being prepared for the emergencies of life and being proficient with the American icon of Liberty — the Rifle — are prudent measures. There will be no HOA. There will be no recycling police and no local ordinance enforcers from City Hall.
Atleast. we will all know where the crazies are

Blacks, hispanics, Asians, and homosexuals need not apply.

ETA: I'm really hoping this is satire, but I'm really fearing it is not.

ETA2: If real, it really concerns me that 7 of the 13 clauses in their Patriot Agreement deal directly with firearms.

I'd really like a similar thing, but with the principles of community engagement and cooperation and free love!

Just when you think you can feel "less shame" about your home state since it got those neo-nazis disbanded...

You mean a commune?

As I was reading their website out of morbid curiosity, I actually began get get a physical feeling of dread regarding their ideals. Either someone has a very good writing ability or there are some very scary folks out there.

ETA: Where was the "perfect" community where John Galt settled in Atlas Shrugged? Colorado? Because this seems like the seriously effed-up version of that place.

Parts of it read as satire to me:

Quote:
The Citadel intends to become a premiere tourist destination for Americans from sea-to-sea and border-to-border. Not only will tourists travel to see the only real fortified castle & town in America, we intend to offer numerous attractions including a firearms museum where enthusiasts actually get to fire their favorite arms from history!

Quote:
Marxists, Socialists, Liberals and Establishment Republicans will likely find that life in our community is incompatible with their existing ideology and preferred lifestyles.
(What about Democrats?)

Quote:
Q: Won't The Federal Government or Military Simply Blow Up Your Town?

Why would they? We are a law-abiding group of people minding our own business. We are conducting our affairs in an open and transparent manner. The Citadel Community is designed to be a safe haven and a major tourist destination. The U.S. Government does not make a habit of blowing up law abiding citizens and tourists on American soil.

Haven't they heard that the Citadel is actually a trap that was left by the Reapers dozens of cycles ago?

They did, but they have the resources needed to build the Crucible, so they can use it against the Reapers.

Covered by the first three. They did not want to be redundant.

BTW, at first I thought this was about the paramilitary school in South Carolina.

Aside from the free love (assuming that means what it meant in the 60s), such communities are springing up in New York. I think they're called "intentional neighborhoods." They mostly attract liberal evangelicals who want to live communally, like in Acts. (This makes many of their conservative, suburban counterparts squirm, of course.)

Add "clothing-optional everywhere" to the list and I'm signing up right now.

Liberal evangelicals? Is that "liberal as compared to evangelicals as a whole?" or "liberals who are also evangelicals?"

Wonder what they're going to do when they irritate the hell out of each other (as neighbors will do), and there are no different ideologies or religions to blame, and no local ordinances or HOAs to turn to as a deciding factor. Probably just start shooting each other or poisoning barking dogs.

When I saw the thread title, I though that they were talking about the military academy.

By an odd coincidence, I was reading a novel a couple of days ago that said that Idaho was a popular place for radical anti-government right-wingers to settle. Is there any truth to that claim?

I spent 4 months there in the summer of 1972, and even back then, I ran into my share of them. In fact, the guy I carpooled with was a member of the John Birch Society. We had some fairly "interesting" conversations on the way to and from work.
