Default Was Jeanne Calment, the oldest person ever, a fraud?

dfresh mentioned this in the thread on the world's oldest person, but I thought it deserved a thread of its own.

The main hypothesis of this independent investigation is that the person who we know as Jeanne Calment is actually her daughter, Yvonne, who took the place of her mother after her death in 1934 in order to help her family avoid heavy financial losses related to inheritance.

Washington Post is skeptical, though maybe they could have done without calling the idea a "Russian conspiracy theory".
