Absolutely. Can't remember how far in the future the movie was supposed to be, but even if it was far enough ahead that the shapes of the constellations had changed to no longer be visible, the moon would still be visible and an amazingly obvious clue.

I have never seen Planet of the Apes* but I have always wondered about that also.

It took Homer even longer.

*except vague memories of a TV series back in the 70's

It may well be a natural plot hole as in the original story the Planet Of The Apes was not actually Earth. That device was only introduced in the first film version.
