TV CNN mistakes sex toy flag for Islamic State banner

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...te-banner.html
Quote:
Flag mocking Islamic extremists, featuring white silhouettes of sex toys on a black background, is mistaken for the real thing at London gay pride event
CNN has taken the video down but a YouTube user saved it:

Well, maybe they had never seen them at that angle before.

I would have loved to see her face when she found out what the "letters" were.

I'm sure you are referring to the Islamic State flag.

I can't view even the Youtube clip, but I'm curious - what angle was CNN aiming for? Was it 'Islamic State is so insidious it even takes over groups that it opposes!' or was it 'Pride parades are terrorism, you guys!'

There's an article in The Guardian by the bloke who made the flag:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentis...ndon-pride-cnn

He's a little bewildered by the CNN reaction (although it seems that the CNN reporter might not have been the only bystander who was confused), but generally pleased with the publicity...

(I haven't quoted the headline because I don't think it's very representative of the article.)

YouTube has removed it. (You get the "account has been terminated" message if you try to play it.) I assume CNN wasn't happy about it.

The gist of the report was that there was an Islamic State flag being flown and no one in the media or the London Police seemed to care.

I don't know. The reporter, Lucy Pawle, never said what she thought the the motivations might be. I found it interesting because I thought the idea of equating gays with terrorists was strictly an American thing. (Ms. Pawle is British.)

From the article:
Quote:
The flag was so clearly made of dildos that I never thought it could be mistaken for an actual Isis flag.
I have to admit I would not known that those were sex toys without that being pointed out. However, it was clear to me that the writing wasn't Arabic. In addition, it was obvious to me that an Islamic State flag wouldn't be welcome at a gay pride parade. So, I'm still confused why Ms. Pawle thought it was possible.
